If there were a precise distinction between the two then yes you would have a point. As I've mentioned Vundo is not the only thing to have come up that cannot be removed.

You mean genius?

Spybot isn't supposed to be a complete removal tool for every piece of software the bad guys have ever conceived. It's for the removal of spyware, i.e. software which sends data about you to someone else without your consent. The fact that it is able to detect and inform you about other nasties, even if it isn't able to remove them, is commendable, not lamentable. Armed with that information, you can then go find a tool which can take care of it, rather than continue being blissfully unaware.

That is why there are engine, rule and list updates to the software so it can pickup what is new.

(a) People should be running AV software anyways that picks up the nasties, so there should be no need to find another tool, (b) it creates the falsehood that SpyBot will remove these sorts of things when they are identified, then regrettably we get the questions "I've run spybot and it won't get rid of nasties, anything else to try?". How is a user supposed to know what is a virus which cannot be removed by spybot and what is simply spyware that can? They don't because the program doesn't differentiate and doesn't inform them. Perhaps if it's not on its list of spyware then it should alert you some other way. Which gets back to my point, sometimes there can be very little difference between spyware and virus's.

I've removed Vundo several times now... just yesterday was the latest

My ultimate list would be:
Vmware Server (for running linux to get more tools)
Cain and Abel - network sniffer, password recovery
Wireshark - packet sniffer
Putty - Telnet, SSH
Paint.net - awesome image app
Filezilla - for FTP needs
Google Desktop - for wading through thousands of emails
iTunes - keeps me sane
Firefox - IEtab, firebug <- essentials
Notepad - simple. awesome.
Procexplorer - good for finding nasty stuff, working out what is going haywire
PStools pack - if you don't know what it is, dont bother
UltraVNC - best vnc app out there
Combofix - seems to do the job well
Hijackthis!

Probably other stuff that I don't think about, but can't think of it right now

Arguably the most important link I have found to date is by Fred Langa for "rebuilding" the OS without loss of data or settings (has saved my bacon on at least 4 occasions, but you will have to do all updates again):

Belarc Advisor 8.1.8.4

Would run circles around that app and there FREE.

SIW is FREE.

I have used Belarc & Everest & SIW beats them both hands down. It also does away with MagicJellyBean Keyfinder as it does that as well + it can show all passwords saved on a system.
