Default Asus P55 Premium with SATA3 and USB3 in the house!

w00t, this just arrived at my door this morning, it has the new SATA3 and USB3 controllers...

I am waiting on some SATA3 Barracuda XT 2TB drives from Seagate and also some USB3 drives and the testing will begin!

Setup:
Intel i7 870
Asus P7P55D-E Premium
2x Western Digital Velicoraptor 300GB
2x GSKILL Falcon 64GB SSD
2x Seagate Barracuda XT 2TB
GSKILL 2200 Perfect Storm C8
NVIDIA GTX280
Windows 7

I will do some comparisons with HD Tach and also IOMeter on the USB and SATA interfaces on this board...

I will like to compare how much faster the new sata3 drives are, but also gains that can be had by using your existing devices in normal and raid configurations on the new controllers..

those baby blue ones are usb3

and of course sata3 6gbs baby

Both Asus and Gigabyte released P55 boards before USB3 and Sata3 hit the market, so they'd already used all their standard naming conventions. Now that usb/sata 3 is out they're both releasing the same boards with the addition of usb/sata 3. So same board, same name, sorta...

Yeah, I wonder if they bundled a floppy connector as well :P. A lot of people still use PATA for their optical drives. Why buy a new one if your old one works fine. Heck, you can still buy PATA drives, so they aren't really discontinued. and what the heck, why would you need a 48 phase power design? I thought my 16 phase was heaps

current hardware probably not much but the latest gear would see a big difference compared to their older counterparts.

sata3 maybe not but usb3 will

no more 30mbs limit to your external HDDs, yes i know you can use Esata but that requires extra power and you have to turn on AHCI (spelling?) which is more hassle than its worth

Whats wrong with AHCI? It's recommended for SSD owners, but I know nothing else about it.

Nothing really wrong with it, but if you don't already have it enabled it pretty much means you need a clean install, because getting it enabled with the right drivers installed afterwards is a major PITA.

And PS2 connectors. Bloody hell they annoy me - time to get rid of all of thes now. At least they have ditched the floppy connector (I can't see one on the product shot on the Asus site)
