Default Calls to 'RETHINK THE CLASSIFICATION OF MODERN WARFARE 2.'

Jesus Christ.

The papers have got a hold of the 'massacre scene' from MW2.

It'll only take a few days before some right-wing prick uses the word 'Port Arthur' and this game will lose its MA15+, which will, invariably, mean a complete ban until the offending scene is removed - weeks and weeks later. Hopefully it's waaay too late, but this is one of the world centres of game censorship, so, hey, don't get too excited about seeing it on the 10th.

Seriously guys, this country's beginning to get scarily bible belt.

Here's the scaremongering...

Great. So what happens (if it gets reclassified) to people that have pre-ordered already? Gimped version? Glad I bought the US one.

And they wonder why Australians use 'alternate means' to get their games?

Wow what a joke. It's only just going to get worse if they keep allowing this to happen. We'll all be stuck playing mario fucking kart.

Ok, ok, the story's being covered in the MW2 thread, but hey, it's serious enough to warrant its own..

They should add a level where you are equipped with a knife only and the mission is to stab kittens.

I wonder how that would go down.

I would pay $10 for a mod that changed the civilians model to a model of the board than banned L4D2/most likely will ban MW2 now.

It would be the only level i played...over and over...

I've killed plenty of innocent pixels in fallout3 and plenty of other games. Hell at the end of fallout3 I killed everyone including myself!

In Civilisation I've made entire empires fall just because I didn't like the fact that their ruler was a black guy.

MW2 sounds good because it's confronting this stuff head on. I'll buy it for sure.

If people can't make the distinction between a video game and real life, then there are bigger problems than a violent video game.

So it's ok to kill children in bioshock, but zombies? Nah - that's far too realistic. Now this. All we need is a politician to grab the MW2 story and we could be facing German style blanket bans.

How is this different to counterstrike? Killing unarmed civilians?

I did like how that article made the point that Australia doesn't have an R18+ rating for video games, and how the game was rated R18/17+ in the US and UK.

They also point out that:

Quote:
The Australian games industry has been calling for an R18+ rating to cater for adult gamers.

Classifications laws cannot change without unanimous support from state and territory attorneys-general.

South Australian Attorney-General Michael Atkinson has repeatedly opposed the idea.
Hopefully this gets a few more people to realise the lack of an R18+ games category is the real problem...

Mate the German style bans are less bad than ours. We are the ones who get "blanket bans". In Germany they get modified versions - their market is big enough that it makes sense for the developers to provide that.

We on the other hand are 20 million people amongst probably 300+ million English speaking people.
