Ok so there is normal highschool which has years 6 to 12, Rudd has said 9 to 12 are senior. There are also what the state government sometimes refers to as Senior High Schools which only have 11 and 12, these are normally part of a college.

All laptops will be going to year 9 each year for the next 3 or so years. Current year 10, 11, 12 should not expect to get a laptop at all. In a Senior High School where there is only Year 11 and 12, they are still getting laptops but it is up to the school who gets them and it is on a loan basis.

I am always amused when someone tells me I'm making shit up. That's fine, I don't care. I can benefit from my knowledge and perhaps others that want to listen to baseless accusations will fall victim to assigning them popularity. Quote:
We have configured our network to only allow access to resources and the internet to machines authenticated with the domain. Connecting to the wireless network gets you nowhere. You asked what resources I was referring to, and I would like to point out it was from the point of view of what a student will need to do their work. Quote:
I would point you in the direction of your employment agreement and the agreements you enter into every time you logon to the network. If you're a TSO, you're also bound by the union directives, IIRC, there was something in there too. |

The only thing a TSO will do it logs calls for laptops to be repaired, troubleshoot minor problems and for anything that requires administrator access they will just re-image the laptop. They are still setting up the infrastructure to re-image these laptops. A lot of teachers and that thought the TSO had the ability to do anything they want with the laptops, I was in crude terms, pointing out that they cant. TSO's and Contracted technicians do not bother me I was merely saying I dont think Matthudson is a TSO.

Ah, I see.
I remember a union-bitch came to a site and was all friendly once second and menacing BEAST the next when she discovered the TSO had a domain administrator account [not my choice!] and would reset passwords for children when required. Fired up that TSO's aren't allowed to do this and that, stick to documented responsibilities, etc. etc. Talk about a waste of resources, the DET is so heavily unionised that nothing is done efficiently. |

Delegated access to reset students passwords on a schools domain is a common task. The TSO's have a hard job.. well maybe not hard just boring and wide in scope, If you look at the job description for a TSO the very last entry is pretty much 'do anything the school says to do'

I don't know about you guys, but pretty much everything is restricted on the laptops/computers at our school.
Only thing we can open is internet explorer and office programs. I can't change any settings, boot off any USB's (I've tried) and all proxys are blocked under the CEO filters. I'm yet to try an executable proxy, but even then I doubt it will even run.

You know the DET scans all google cached websites for keywords matching the laptops and then performs a second deeper scan to detect chatter about bypassing the security, then scans facebook with a script that tries to add users based on their username/emails gathered...it then sends an email to the principal of the school that a 4th scan picks up the student name belonging to.

Yes I know that precisely.
Words like 'sex' 'fuck' 'shit' 'boobs' pop up on the schools internal filters and within 10 minutes you are called to the principals office.

.If you can get things to run by asking them to run as admin, how hard would it be to run putty? Port 110 is open in schools (at least on the staff wifi network) so email clients can run. So what you can do is run an sshd at home on port 110 and use ssh tunnels to do anything you want. I guess the firewall on the machines might get in the way, but it's a step closer. Oh, and the best thing about this method is that you don't need any login anywhere. Port 110 is open to any computer which the DHCP server that the school chooses to give an IP to. So there's no proxy login etc to trace, only a MAC address.
