Default Canon G10 or G11

I'm currently using a Canon 40D - 17-55 f.28 as my primary camera. However there are times when I can't carry around with me everywhere.

Not a big fan of P&S but was thinking of G10 / G11.
I know it won't be the same as the 40D but what are your thoughts on it? Which is preferred of the 2 G10 or G11?
G11 has a better sensor but less megapixels?

Megapixels do not maketh thy camera
The G11 is supposed to be the better camera, but the G10 (and G9) and both good and can be had a lot cheaper

Be aware, they G9-11 cameras aren't small and are not pocketable in fashionable jeans... They bulge badly

You may be better off with a more compact, compact, that uses a simillar sensor. The new S90 is supposed to be good, as are a range of the compact canons with good features.

G11 > G10.

G* is huge and ugly. Might as well get a GF-1 or EP-1.

The GRD3 and S90 are the best truly pocketable cameras.

Both have the same sensor as the G11.

The GRD3 has a better lens, build quality and interface.

The S90 is a few bills cheaper and slimmer.

Thanks for the info.
It doesn't have to be ultraportable for me.
Not too stressed over the G10/G11 size.

Did some checks on the S90.
Looks awesome . . .

So between the G10/G11 or S90 . .

Gives you a bit of a fix so the wait isnt as agonising.

i would go the other way id say g10 for price. i think the g11 is speced better, however cost alot more than the advantage u get from it (ie advantage isnt parallel to price).

g10 bang for buck is my opinion. i got one jsut recently from here and i am well impressed with the shots, with a hotshoe makes for awesome gimic in shoot to play with models just turn up with a g10 :P makes them get all curious about toy camera :P

I recently sold my G10 and am patiently waiting for my G11. Should be here tomorrow or the day after..

Go for the G11 if low light performance and the swivel screen is important to you.

Or go for the G10 if you never shoot in low light because with 14.7MP, it will be better when it comes to cropping photos and you get higher resolution pictures.

Spring for the EP-1 or GF1 then. Honestly the G series is dull given the size.

Happy to weigh in on the GF-1 vs G10 if wanted, I've owned both (upgraded to the GF-1 from the G10).

Lens is fast at F2 but shuttler speed only goes up to 1/1600. so you might need to carry a ND filter around if you want to shoot wide open.

Battery life is half of G11. No hot shose.. mm , flash sync 1/2000 vs 1/500, S90 is know for so so Dynamic range and Ken think S90 is better......

anyway, I will put my money on G11. price difference are very small anyway.

That's very odd, though not sure it will concern me too much as would normally be ok to stop down. Will have to check the ISO options, if it goes low enough them might be fine.

Battery life and poor dynamic range are somewhat concerning. The dynamic range is confusing, given it apparently has the same sensor (and I can only imagine the same image processing) as the G11 - Canon crippling a camera on purpose? (not unheard of!)

G11 is too big for my personal use, if it doesn't fit in the pocket then I just don't bother and would use the DSLR.

I might try taking a memory card to a local store and hopefully they let me take some test shots in the store.
