I have 3 hard drives in my computer, 2 500gb Samsung HD501LJs and a 1tb Western Digital WD1001FALS. I feel like these hard drives, mainly the WD aren't performing as well as they should. I use Windows 7 and the hard disk score is 5.9 which seems low for a supposedly fast HDD. One thing that I was thinking was could it be that they're not getting enough power? I'm running a quad core phenom 2, ATI 4890 1gb and those hard drives and my PSU is a 520W Vantec Ion. I haven't had any real problems other than that, my computer is completely stable both in uptime and software reliability. I've been running it like this for a while too. I've got the WD running my OS and all my games, so that's the main one I really care about. I ran HD Tune just then and got the following result:
Click to view full size! I don't have a clue how good/bad that is, which is why I'm asking. Main reason I'm starting to care is I want to change from windows 7 RC to retail as a permanent move and as such want to make sure I install it on the fastest HDD. I was thinking of buying something faster, but it seems this should HDD fine. If anyone has any opions/suggestions, let me know ![]() Thanks.

5.9 is a very normal score for any HDD based setup. Even my RAID0 setup gets this. I wouldn't be too worried. Looking at those results it looks totally normal

that looks to be able right. pretty much any 7200rpm drive will be about there. raptors (new gen ones) are a bit quicker but main thing is access time. 5.9 score is normal as well, wont get any higher unless u get a SSD (gets 7.7
)as for the raptor one...the dips is wats causing the low average. otherwise looks normal. |
