Default Questions about sound cards

Hi all,

I currently have a 5.1 Headset for my Consoles and PC etc. Runs via a Decoder Box that came with it so that it can be used on Xbox / Playstation etc.
( Please dont bring up about this as it was cheapest at the time for my Consoles and PC use so please dont start on about 2 channel headsets being better as i do know this. )
And im doubtful that my current soundcard is helping me out much as i cant tell if it has Dolby Digital Encoding on it for games / music etc. Its an onboard soundcard on my Asus Rampage 2 Gene.
Question 1 : Does it do Dolby Digital Encoding, Does anyone know ?
Question 2 : If not what would be the best soundcard without going above 150 bucks that has S/PDIF to get sound on with the Active Dolby Digital Encoding.

Cheers in advance.

Anything onboard should have optical out if your headphones decoder box supports it.

No. Most onboard sound cards do not have a DD license so they cannot encode using DDL.

The Xonar DS for $89.00 does DTS. But by the looks of things you need DDL.

The Xonar U1 does DDL which is what I think you are after. You can get one from MSY for $46.00

Grab the Xonar U1. It encodes using Dolby Digital Live. A Dolby Digital signal comes out the Mic In via an adapter.

for the price of that i might as well spend another like 20 bucks to get the soundblaster titanium.
Is there another one around for under 100 that does DDL from somewhere ?

Im not familiar with that board, but some of the enthusiast boards have DDL enabled on the realtek 889a sound chip. My EP45DS4 has it.

Most auzentech cards have DDL and the (IMO) superior DTS Connect. Although, for good reason, they dont tend to get sold 2nd hand. *hugs auzen card*
