Shit to hear man, but ALWAYS do a backup I've learnt the hardway too many times! Now I backup my data in 3 different locations.
1 - Different HDD on the PC 2- External HDD 3- NAS

Its not a Seagate is it? Several models had a firmware issue.

is the drive still seen in the bios? if so it might just be a issue with the partition being lost.
otherwise, it does become harder to get the data back. with the seagates and their firmware issue, not sure if a different board would help or not. |

I backup everything, its just i use that hdd to download on to, i haven't sorted all the stuff on it for about 4 months cos i haven't had time.
The drive is still seen in bios. But its not in the disk manager so i can't even see if its not initialized or anything. Yes it's a Segate 1tb hdd. About 5 months old. Going to get an external enclosure today see if i can see it with that.

see if its a firmware affected disk *points to end of sig*
if it is and if the BIOS is really detecting it, you may be in luck. I was under the impression that once the affected models bricked though that they stopped detecting altogether, so In that case it could be that a diode has popped on the PCB or the reader head of the disk has failed or the motor or something, which is no good. |

1 9VP18NT5 No download available for this serial number. No action required. If i hold it up to my ear, and move it a bit, it sounds like the head is scraping on the platter. (as in its loose) It was working perfectly fine untill i reboot my pc tho...

Since you purcahsed these legally you can simply re rip from the original dvds.
If it can't be seen in Windows but seen ok in bios, I'd give an old version of Ghost a try. <Insert my usual restore from backup comment here> Quote:
That sounds like busted and data gone to me.

I picked up a couple of my backup drives on my desk and shacked them the same to my ear, and it sounded like this one. Except they work perfectly fine?
Going to remove all drives, except the OS and this one and see if i can get it to see it.

Yeah that's the problem when you are describing a sound over the Internet.

Think its time to cut my loses and buy 4x 2tb hdd's. And a 1tb. (leaving my 320 for ubuntu/vista/win7.)
And have 4tb to put shit onto and have a backup to the other 4gb. And the other 1tb i download onto and do nothing else on it.
