Default Trade Bait - How does it work?

So I've heard the saying trade bait before which I assume means you buy some games on special / cheap somewhere then take them into another store and use them to trade for another game and end up spending less than if you bought the game outright.

Is that all there is to it? If so how do you go about finding the cheap trade bait games? Where can you find the trades lists for stores?

I'm in the market to get the new call of duty and wondering if I should try this method out to save some money.

well just print out the trade-in exclusion list for these game stores, put it in your wallet and next time you're out and walk into another games store, check out the games they have on special. its that easy.

oh cool. That does sound easy. So they don't have a particular trade list for each game but more an exclusion list which I assume they update every week or something?

I tried looking on both EBGames and GAME websites but couldn't find anything on trade lists, do you have a direct link or able to point me in the right direction?

EB and GAME lists usually have recent games as their trade in - chances are you wont find them at very cheap prices

JBhifi have an exclsuion list which is usually updated before each catalogue (just check every now and then). Easiest way is to look for cheap games NOT on JB's list, and trade in there.

I've been working on trade bait for almost a year now - the cheapest i've paid for a brand new game was $30 .

Best places to look for trade bait would be forums, ebay, DickSmith, Kmart, BigW, EB (just look for stocktake sales etcetc)

Thanks guys, I will keep an eye out and do my best to trade in on Call of Duty.

Also, how do you know how many games you need to trade in on something? Just by looking at the catalogue or is there a price guide or something?

EDIT: So if it isn't on the exclusion list I can trade it? For example NBA 07 and NBA 08 are on the exclusion list but NBA06 isn't, can I trade NBA 06?

Just hang out at Ecogamer, you'll quickly learn what the current best games to look for are, and expected pricings. That and there are links to the exclusion lists on its main page.

EDIT: And my massive 9 game haul for $120 from the UK got lost in the mail, so I've gotta wait another week to be able to claim it

JB are always trade 3 for 1, you just have to read the ad to see whats on offer this month.

I'm like 90% sure there wasn't a NBA 06 game for the PS3?? NBA 07 is listed, but without a SKU number, since it never got released in Australia, but was still imported to be tried to trade in on.

Sorry I was just doing that as an example, I didn't know if the game actually existed or not.

IMporting games is always good, just be wary some places wont accept import/ntsc games as trade in

get the right games and trade it early enough and you can actually make cash with your trade bait shenanigans.

my nearest jb hifi is 2 hours away so i dont do it but a few guys in our clan do it very well...

hey i was thinking about this the other day; what if you buy cheap games that aren't on the exclusion list yet and trade it in for store credit? that way, when the time comes for a new release to be out, and they put a whole lot of new games on the list, they wont have shit on you cos you've already traded it in before it was excluded for store credits???
GREAT IDEA OR GREATEST IDEA?

Trading them in when its not part of a trade 3 deal won't get you stuff all for the games. The only way you can get around it is to trade for a trade 3 deal of a game you don't want then return the game for store credit.

So pretty much you have to look for games $25 and under to see a result? May as well just order games online and save the trouble of fishing for games.

we're talking about new release titles on the consoles, not PC

i'm all for you guys taking advantage of the system but i'd advise you against abusing it and possibly having the whole system removed because you're only out to make a profit
