Stock everything, you shouldn't have much trouble with 3Ghz I doubt, set your FSB to 375 and see how it goes. You may need to change the RAM speed setting to make the speed match roughly the same as it's rated speed.

Oh, shouldn't xD. Just try it out. On stock voltages, the worst you can do is require the case to be opened and the CMOS to be reset, but even thats unlikely as modern motherboards reset themselves automatically if they have trouble most of the time.

Um, read motherboard manual for your motherboard for that info, but theres usually a set of two or three pins called CMOS reset and you either change a jumper position for a second while it's off (it'll explain in the manual) or tap a screwdriver across two pins to bridge a connection temporarily.

Yeah, once you've done this, download prime95, LinX and coretemp (Google should hopefully find them for you, or someone else can post the links). These programs can help stability test your computer. First, start up coretemp. This will monitor your CPU temps. Then start up LinX and run it (just click start, default settings should be OK), if that passes with no errors, then start prime95 and run a "Blend" stress test and spare a good few hours to make sure it's stable. I think you'll be fine though as this is a fairly modest overclock for that processor

Wow blind leading the blind.
What temps are you getting at 2.8GHz? What's your v-Core showing? You have stock or after market cooling on the HS? How are you achieving this 2.8GHz (Multi x FSB)? Shit dude before you DL and follow all of the stoners suggestions get a f....ing understanding of OCing. What is your current temp idle/load?

Okay get some facts before just rushing into OC and potentially killing something. If you can't afford to replace the parts DON'T OC!
Your CPU upper limits can be found here: http://users.erols.com/chare/elec.htm For the Q8400 we can see the upper temp is 71.4C your hitting 70C and I would be beyond "my comfort zone" unless I didn't care about killing the CPU. If you gonna play the game get some after market cooling. Read these guides and get the right tools before you even start as you will probably kill something: Goto OC 101 and READ http://forums.overclockers.com.au/sh...hreadid=135486 http://forums.overclockers.com.au/sh...d.php?t=420595 Another good guide: http://forums.extremeoverclocking.co...ad.php?t=79266 Go about it "foolishly" and misinformed and we will be reading posts soon about you having issues with your Q8400 or it dying.
