Default Why is my HDD screwing up

It's making annoying noises, and it's new.
Sometimes I hear it spin down, stuff freezes, then it spins back up.
Annoying when im in arena or something l o l.

Any ideas?

5400rpm sounds like Green Power to me, which may have its own special instructions to spin down on idle, to save power and be "green".

To try to override I'd set everything to max performance/Always On in Power Options control panel, make sure HDDs don't spin down etc

Also, in Device Manager> Disk Drives, double-click whatever the drive is and in "Policies", make sure "Optimize For Performance" is selected, and that the two lower ticks are ticked (Enable Write Caching and Enable Advanced Performance") for maximum performance.

I once had the same symptoms from a HDD. Turned out to be a faulty power connector with one of the terminals making intermittent contact. Using another connector solved the problem. Also, check the connectors for any dust or dirt.

Also mention what brand of PSU and how many watts it is, as this could be an issue too if it's a crapper

I've had this with a faulty ATA Controller.

Old 120GB hdd, PCI add in card, card was stuffed and would do this.

...or there is an overheating drive. Seagate 7200.10's are good for going la la when getting hot. If the drives are hot to touch then time to get them alot cooler.
