Default Connecting XBOX via HDMI to a LCD monitor

Yeah hey guys, i am purchasing an xbox elite which comes with the HDMI cable or what not. Apparantly many moniters dont have a HDMI or internal speakers, mine comes with both. My question is that can i get away with just connecting the HDMI cable?

yes you can. and just connect the audio to your desktop speaker using an audio-in cable with the adaptor that comes with the xbox.

Or use the monitor's headphone jack (which is what I do) if you want better sound.

well i dont exactly know what your problem is? you say that you do have speakers on your LCD and you have HDMI input. then why dont you just run the hdmi cable into your screen and be done with it???

if your LCD is a computer monitor and dont have speakers on it, then yes you'll need to connect your xbox to speakers via the dongle.

please rephrase your question. as i fail to see your dilemma.

the OP is probably referrring to a stock standard HDMI cable not the over-priced MS HDMI cable (that comes w/ a dongle)

well if that's the case then, here's how i used to have it:
i have a dell 2408wfp, and it has HDMI input, no speakers but an audio-out port. So all i would do if i didnt want to use the dongle is connect the xbox to the monitor via HDMI and run an Audio line from the Audio-out port to my speakers.

That should work for the 2408WFP and similar configured monitors, but some monitors have HDMI-in but no audio-out port. If that is the case, the OP will need to use his original AV cables and simultaneously plug them in with the 'non-branded' HDMI cable. Now, the problem arises here is that MS purposely made the original AV cable plug section very thick so that 2 cables cannot be plugged in simultaneously (thus forcing the user to purchase the over-priced Official MS HDMI cable). The only way around this is to shave the thick plug section down (eg. using an industrial file or similar) so that both the generic HDMI cable & MS AV cable can snugly plug into the X360 rear ports.

dont expect to much from it, especially with some games like forza 3 running in 720p, looks mighty blurry. I went back to my Plasma tv.

The audio adapters (that come with the branded HDMI cables) can be picked up on ebay for a few dollars.

unless my monitor is faulty, nope. Also tried with 1080p games on ps3.

Claims to be outputting 1080p and it looks crappy. No comparison to 1980x1080 PC games.

Same effect if you sit real close to any LCD/Plasma outputting 1080p its just not that clear.
