What has happened to gaming on the PC. This year, I cannot think of ONE really brilliant game. In fact, there have been only a handful of properly good games in the past 2/3 years. Off the top of my head, I can think of: Left4Dead, The Orange Box (all 3 games), COD4 and the 2 WoW expansions. We haven't seen a good "Diablo" or BF1942 in AGES
And before you guys pipe up about BioShock, Fallout 3, Crysis, GRiD, Borderlands, Need For Speed Shift, ARMA2 etc.... they are hardly "awesome games". GOOD games, but hardly awesome. Seriously, every new game I see with a 9 or 10 on IGN/Gamespot etc, they are always pathetic games claiming "revolutionary playstyle, destructable environments, and intense combat" built around a console controller. Some games don't even support anti-aliasing in 2009 and , have uncurable mouselag, and are often ridiculously buggy. So many games have 1 great thing, but fail miserably on everything else. Dragon's age had an AWESOME storyline, but was hardly revolutionary (or even up to scratch) on other fronts. Borderlands... bored after 10 levels, with an underwhelming ending. ARMA 2 looked SOOO promising, but after playing what can only be described as an alpha release test demo, I deemed it rubbish and unworthy of my time. I won't even bother talking about MW:2, since we all know what I'm thinking on that one. Is it just me, and my anally high standards, or are other people becoming a little crestfallen at the trend for PC game developers targeting paper-eating Master-Chief nerds. Bring back console commands, dedicated servers, controller schemes that don't LAG, are not 4-button-2-trigger oriented, and storylines that target adults, not 13yr olds. Don't get me wrong, I like console gaming, but not at the expense of PC's. It's like owning a Veyron, and being confined to a carpark. I'm pinning all my hopes on Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2. I already know Episode 3 will be brilliant.

Games go in cycles, each developing company can only release a fantastic game every 3 years, thats why next year we have a New WoW Xpack, Starcraft 2, Bad Company 2, Duke Nukem Forever, new Quake, new Doom, Rage. 2010 looks good imo.
Just like every product there are cycles, the good developers can't release games every year, it just doesn't work. You forgot Shattered Horizon, that is a fantastic game, truly incredible. What your saying though is that there have been no brilliant games, of course there haven't, fantastic games are very rare, they don't come ever year, they don't even come every two years, your expectations are unrealistic. |

Starcraft 2... maybe the most anticipated game of the last decade.
I swear Crysis was so overrated. Last edited by SmEaGoLLuM!; 14th November 2009 at 3:56 PM. |

![]() Otherwise I agree with you, 2009 has been a shocking yr, but the blame goes largely to the console crowd/mentality, ie, low level GFX/Physics, and dumbed down gameplay.....one only need compare the original FEAR from 2005 to the horseshit they made in 2009 to see the effect consolitis has had on PC games. |

also i'm beginning to loose faith in rage and anything further from id given carmack's recent comments re dedicated servers. admittedly he did say they'd see how mw2 goes w the switch and decide. granted, the decision will naturally be one of economics. OT but rage looks extraordinary but the gameplay will no doubt u usual id satanic blandness. wtf is w id's occult obsession? Last edited by Lord Grengis; 14th November 2009 at 4:23 PM. |

Seems like it's easier to create a game for consoles. After all, you don't need to bother with fancy graphics or physics, and you don't need to worry about getting hitboxes correct or even a convincing storyline. Simple games on a simple platform for simple people.
