Default Help recovering corrupt audio file

I've got a G729 audio file, which appears to be the right file size for its type and length, but nothing can open it. I'm not sure what happened to it to get like this but other files of the same type are OK. I typically play them back in WMP11, but it's having a heart attack trying.

Anyone know of any 'smarter' audio playback/editing programs that can see past any file header errors (I'm merely guessing here) and show me the actual file?

Any help appreciated!

ninja edit: with some googling, I'll be giving this a go to see if it's a problem with the file header:

The trick:

1. Get a hex-editor like XVI32.
2. Open the header of an intact file recorded with the same MP3 player
with the hex-editor.
3. Replace the corrupt header one hex-code after another with the header
of the intact file. Stop when you've gotten a bit further than the place
where the hex-code translates to the phrase "data".
4. You might have to do some tweaking in order to set the length of the
file properly, so you don't miss something at the end. The basic structure
of the header is given for example at

I hope this helps somebody else
Kim
any ideas other than that?

update - fixing the header with the above information worked like a charm. i'm so freaking relieved.

i was going to delete this thread but maybe someone else will find it of some help.

carry on, nothing to see here.

actually, except unless someone knows how to change the header of a shitload of files in one fowl swoop (like a batch file or similar?). I'm about to hit up google and if I find a solution, I'll be back!
