General Photography banter thread

So, someone the other day said it might be good to have a general Photo banter thread where people can post up what's on their minds, any rants or things they might have done recently.

I'll start things off! On the way home this evening I saw a crazy Christmas'd up house, lights and plastic Santas and all. I pulled over and took a few photos, and out of blue a young woman walked over, and said "You use SLR camera?", complete with thick eastern European accent. She was holding a 50D + Sigma 18-200 but couldn't get any decent shots. I bumped the ISO up to 800 for her and stuck it in Av, took a couple of photos and then took a portrait of her in front of the lights with some fill flash so she could show her friends.

I just wanted to share that it felt great to be able to help out with a bit of useful knowledge, and I'm stoked my fill flash portrait came out well instead of being an over-underexposed mess

Heh, what time were you there? I drove past last night looking at a few people taking photos and a few inside on the driveway taking shots.

For those who want to know, this house is in Rhodes on Devlin St/Homebush Bay Drive. (That is the one right?

)

I dont want to think of how much electricity this guy uses.....

Oh, roughly about 9PM I think. I would have been the one standing as far away as I could, stupid tele zoom

gah our office receptionist (yeah shes ok) is trying to get me to teach her how to use her SLR. argh its pretty frustrating teaching the VERY basics.
rule number 1... do not use liveview for normal shooting!!!!!

Holy shit, i almost got taken out while driving past this house at lunch today.

There was an accident at the traffic light intersection and both left lanes were closed. Everyone had to move intot he right lane, where i just managed to squeeze through on the Yellow light.

As i'm passing through the accident, there is a right turning bay on the other side of the road which has only just in the last month had new wire traffic dividers put in. I always thought it was a good idea and today it proved it!

I'm only 1 meter away from death!! A car fromt he other side of the road loses control and mounts the gutter and hits the new wire barriers and stops dead on top. RIGHT NEXT TO ME!!!!

The passengers were ok thank god. But it was sooooo surreal!
