On a different note, Nikon have released an update to their SB-900, the SB-910.
Not that I know anything about speed lights, just mentioning it.

Sweet! Hopefully this will drive the price of SB-800's down a little bit more, keen to get 3 or 4 second hand in the coming months...

I think this was a rushed update in order to fix some of the overheating and misfiring issues that have been experienced with the SB-900, guessing that's why we didn't see a refresh of the SB-700 as well.

Yeah, there's a lot of 'so what' type comments on dpreview about it...

Wasn't the SB-700 only released earlier in the year anyway? It replaced the SB-600 that was a few years old.

Yeah exactly, the SB-700 is decent from what I've heard - no reason to improve on it at this point.

Wasn't there some issue with the SB-900 where it wouldn't make contact with the hot shoe properly?
Or was that just the over heating thing causing misfires?

Yeah it had a dodgy shoe, that was the main cause of the misfires - mostly evident on the D700.

I don't yet dabble in video although somewhat interested, figured that other people in this community would like this. getting 4000FPS slow mo out of a 60fps 550D, and the result actually looks reasonable.

Thats pretty funky. Pitty I don't really dabble in video either.

My gear wants list is growing by the day now (especially considering how awesome my next paycheque is going to be)... heh.

Sigma 30mm f1.4
Sigma 50mm f1.4
Canon 580ex2 (tho I might wait until they release a new version, as the rumors are indicating)
Decent Tripod
New bag - want a thinktank retro, really sick of my crumpler 6MDH haha
Intervalo
CPL and ND filters and a 67-77mm step ring to fit them on my 70-200mm

Also, bored tonight so i'm going to wander out and about the area and see what I can see, theme is 'Lonely Roads'

So i'm thinking of getting a canon 300mm 2.8 non-is for sports shooting. My only concern is that Canon will no longer service such an old lens if something were to happen.
For the price(~$1600) does it seem like a reasonable gamble?

Don't see why they wouldn't service it, it's just a matter of how much it'll cost. Best bet is to call a service center and ask?

From the reading i've done, the canon service centre announced in 2006(?) that they would no longer be servicing the 300mm 2.8 non-is. I've read that there are third-party places which can service them, it's just finding the right parts that is the difficult part, depending on what is wrong.
Your right, i'll call around and see what information i can find out
