So are the sony point&shit cameras with back illuminated sensors noticably better in low light stuff? i have been looking around a bit and not found any conclusive evidence.

one person was saying they are good in low light, but take shit photos in daylight, which doesn't seem like a good compromise.

reason i ask is someone dropped their IXUS and wanted to know if it was worth getting a sony something instead, I said stay with IXUS and they got a 110, which just dropped in price heaps here.

They say that it adds one stop, but I am sceptical.

The sensors are relatively small and the cameras using them so far have slow lenses.

The Ricoh GRD3 provides the best low light performance in the compact class.

The Cannon S90 comes in a very close second for half the price.

They seem to be going for anywhere between $1K to $1.5K USD on eBay.

I'm looking into the buying options now.

It was used to film the first moon walk!

There is a f/1.4 version as well.

Apparent the C mount standard is loosely defined, so this one only provides 95% coverage on u43.

So you crop if it bugs you, or shoot at 16:9 to eliminate it in-body.

I'm also considering this Pentax 25mm f/1.4 for $330 USD.

Ahh so these things are CCTV lenses, no wonder the imaging circle is so small (and hence the low price). They look like a decent match for the 4/3 cameras. Using old high end (film) wide angles on such a heavy crop factor seems like a waste in my opinion.

P.Angenieux is the Leica of cinema lenses. Why do you consider it a waste?

I didn't mean the P.Angenieux or the Pentax 25, as they're designed for a normal-ish perspective on a small imaging circle. I was more talking about photographic lenses like OM, Nikons, M42s etc.

Woo, I'm back from my month in Japan.

1900 photos. My Tamron 17-50 died. I bought this and this. It was fun.
