Any idea where I might source suitable pins from? edit: lol, it's the same size as an IDE 2.5" floppy connector, both pin size and pin spacing if you wanted to cutup the connector to have two pins moulded into something solid rather than the loose pins plugging in separately. Apparently the IDE pins aren't as tight a fit as the stock pins though, if anyone is interested this thread has a lot of good info.

So its finally uni holidays and I finally had some time to mess around with the cables. Got one of the broken sets, tested them to make sure they were broken. Chopped the 3.5mm plug off, stripped the wires, used a multimeter to test which wire was which (for reference, using the standard black cables with the straight end, silver was ground, yellow was right and white was left), fed the pailiccs sleeve and heatshrink onto the cable, set it up on clips, soldered, tested, heatshrunk, sleeved and then heatshrunk again, tested and its all groovey
Was a pretty painless procedure, especially given how small the pailiccs solder points were. The end result, a revived set of cables using ~$5 worth of materials and 10 minutes ![]()
