Default Guild bank robbed 42k gold + 20 of mats gone

Hey,

Between me and some work mates we have our own guild in it was ~42k gold lots of ore BOE epic gear (245 gears) lots of mats the gbank was full all members have full access...

Anyway my brother asked if he could come to our server use some mats to build a tank up we all agreed (most of the mats are mine the other guys just swap items in and out) anyway he got hacked bam everything gone!

the hackers then sold all his gear used all his badges on a shammy he had been raiding with for 1.5years his dk that was in raiding gears and also cleaned out his gbank on his horde server...

the hacker added an authenticator to his account so he was on the phone to blizz for 1.5hours today on hold then the reset it all for him but he has to submit tickets for all the gear...

it sucks

Should have had a authenticator in the first place. I have no sympathy for people that whinge, bitch and moan about being hacked when it could be avoided easily.

Also, seems a little convenient that the account was hacked just after getting access to the bank

yes to make this clear to some people who do not read...

work mates = it would make it pretty hard to come to work after stealing few hundred dollars worth of game items.

Brother got hacked.

this is not some emo thread its just me posting about what happened it sucks but im not going to lose sleep over it...

Just out of curiosity how many people that play (especially in AUS) use these authenticators? I was thinking about doing it for reasons such as this but I know a lot of people that play and not a single person uses it.

Seems the hackers are using them more to block accounts than the people trying to block them out instead

Depends who you talk to I guess.

Most people that play the raid game will likely have an authenticator. Our guild (bar 1 person) are covered by authenticators. We run pretty lean, so it sucks when someone is unavailable for several weeks due to bad account security.

So everyone ordered them from the Blizzard website?

Unless you are playing from a public terminal, sharing account information and/or have been using infected third party WoW software, its really hard to get your account hacked.

Tough lesson to learn the hard way. Use the authenticators.

Two of our guildies got hacked recently

First = cleared out all the high sellable items from the gbank (from 4 tabs)
and sold all the guy's toon's gear and alts gear
This took about 1 1/2 weeks to recover from (ie tickets etc etc)

Second = we'd learn our lesson by that point and now only the GM + 2 officers have full access, all with authenticators on their accounts and core raiders can get 3 stacks/day
Couldnt get access to gbank but sold all the guys toon's items etc.
he is still waiting to get all his stuff back but its getting there

Indeed. I'm more interested about where this hack originate from.

he said he has not done anything dodgy on his pc but he did use our fathers laptop to change account info on the weekend and as he is slightly single im assuming he has been into the porn sites...i have told him before that it will make him go blind or he will get trojans/keylogger nasty visurses.

A more likely reason is using third party WoW mods/plugins that are infected with key loggers or trojans; or entering your login details on to fake WoW/Blizzard websites. See where the Blizzard authenticator comes in handy?

Stealing account information on World of Warcraft is strictly limited to people interested in your game account.

Hope you get your stuff back.
