Big fan of the 17-70 here. Sold lots, had none come back. 18-105VR is good too, but I like the close focus / wider / bigger aperture on the 17-70. New version has OS too IIRC.

My 50mm F/1.4 was absolutely perfect, but the 30mm F/1.4 had a pretty bad front focusing issue so I sent it back. I'm still waiting for that sucker to come back

how so? i've used the tamron .. it was crap... low light and it wont even work properly, not to mention all the other issues i had with the lens and countless reviews and instances of people have issues with this lens... sigma had no issues whatsoever... i know sigma has its own problems, but not as many as tamrons... i havent tried the new tamron vc model so cant comment on that.

Where did you get it from? And where do the Sigma repairs get done in Aus?

I've had the 17-70, and still have a 14mm/2.8 and 105mm/2.8 macro. All are flawless and built very well.

Out of curiosity what do you have coming back mostly?

I've got the Sigma 24-70 f2.8 and 10-20 f3.5, both have excellent build quality, are sharp as a tack, and fast to focus.

Can't fault them really.

my 50mm F1.4 is a gem of a lens but with a big front focus, even with micro adjustment set to max it's about 2cm front focused at all apertures (only tried it up to F8) so i'm going to have it replace, the good thing is that i bought it from DD and after speaking to them and telling them about it as well as buying a 5Dmk2 they will have a body and a lens perfectly matched waiting for me to pick up from Singapore when i'm leaving for Europe in a few weeks time

so yeah there has been lot's of issues with the 50mm but knowing that i'm going oversea soon and knowing how good DD are i too the chance so in a way i'm not sorry, if i manual focus it's a bloody sweet lens until i get a properly adjusted one

Same general concern with the Sigmas. Considering a 17-70 f/2.8-4 (I want the stabilisation, welcome to agree/disagree so I can go $200 cheaper with the 4.5) but CR Kennedy won't have stock for a few weeks; I'd prefer to have it by end of next week - CamerasDirect have stock.
