Yup. All modes it seems.

Yup. New button for live view. Half press the shutter to focus (plus exposure as per normal). Maybe theres still a way to enable it on the 1000d? Seems pretty fast on the contrast focusing too (but diff lens, so needs more checking).

Screen is nice and sharp, looks awesome.

Worth the upgrade when compared to the 500D?

Reading the dpreview article it seems that it might be worth it. What are other peoples thoughts on the issue? Seems cheap enough to make the upgrade, while the 500D is still worth something.

Why on earth would you upgrade from a 500D? I'm sure there would be a more useful way to blow a couple of hundred dollars; 50/f1.8, tripod, filters maybe.

Only filter I want is an ND400. Got the rest of that. Was just wondering if its worth it or not...

In your opinion I'd say no

Oh wait, it's nothing like a 7D, it's like a 500D with more megapixels

(I'll be keeping my 7D of course)
Couldnt have been said any better

It's a great way to waste money jumping one model up at a time. Skip to every 2nd model and spend the surplus on glass.

That's right. DSLR bodies aren't the same as IT gear. There's only ever marginal improvements, and the body you've got will work just fine for ages.

I lasted from a 350D (new) until recently when I got the 7D. Nothing in the mean time was a significant enough jump to bother upgrading. Better glass offers more improvement.

If I jumped I'd be going from a 6 megapixel Pentax 100D to the Canon 550D

A bigger and better jump would be to the K7.

Ah well I mucked around with mine tonight. Personally I hate doing night pics of things... Anywho - damn forgot that Adobe wouldn't of released a RAW plugin to suit this new cam yet. Anyone know the approx timeframe it usually takes em?

Hey I just got the 550D twin lens kit from JB-Hi-Fi for $1500, they had it displayed just under $1800.

Best thing is I have somewhere to take it back to if it breaks.

Hey does anyone know if you can attach the 550d to the power point. I see no dc input on the camera, but i do see a rubber flap on the battery cover which allows a cable to pass through. Would this flap enable some kind of battery shaped cable so it can be plugged directly into the wall? does such thing exist?
