I've got an XPA-5. Build quality is great, and pretty good value for what you get. They'll test it before it heads out to you if you get one - their customer service is good.

Does your Yamaha have pre-outs?

well i just wired my money for an emotiva xpa5.
see how quick their shipping is! apparently it's pretty damn quick.

it's going to be teamed up with a denon 2310avr and paradigm monitor set.

i can't wait.

Will you be able to do a review/comparison once you get it as I have the exact same speaker package as you linked with an Onkyo and I have been pondering the XPA5 for a while now....would love to hear your feedback!

Not a problem.

From what i have heard from dtv members, it smooths the highs of the monitor series. This is a welcome change for me, as they can sound a little bright at times. I am running a Monitor 11 v5, CC290 v5, ADP-390 dipoles.

I was amazed at the difference between the Denon and my old Onkyo 605. So much slam from the 11's.
I didn't notice that both my subwoofers were turned off at the power point during first listen!

I am really looking forward to hearing the results myself!
Should be a nice step up from the Denon 2310!

I've got an XPA-5 and it was an amazing step-up from using the integrated amp in my yamaha receiver. The power is very clean and not overly coloured to my ears. Now I can drive my speakers to a level that is enveloping without any of the harshness that the yamaha had, it feels so much more spacious.

Watch your back when you unpack it - its incredibly heavy!! Still surprises me when I need to move it...

Look forward to hearing your thoughts when it arrives.

I'll be considering a UMC-1 processor in the future.

Just asked for a quote for 3 of them Upa-1's, the 200 watt mono blocks.
Will then run mono blocks for the front stage (LCR) and my existing Upa-2 will drive the surrounds.
Got a date on my UMC-1, but not 100% sure if I will take it when it becomes available to me in April.
Not convinced it will be a significant upgrade over my Harman Kardon AVR, which only sees duty as a pre pro, external amplification atm is a Rotel 1075 5 channel power amp.
Reckon the Emo mono blocks will be more dynamic than the Rotel, plus my 2 channel will sound better through the mono blocks instead of the Upa-2, which sounds good as well, but I want more.
Stupid hobby, bloody audio shit, like computers, always wanna upgrade lol....

Ordered an Emotiva XPA-5 yesterday, was dispatched today and is estimated to arrive in a week (next Thursday). Unfortunately I missed the xmas special, but it's still an excellent buy at just over $1100AU delivered (it weighs 40kg boxed).

Will be partnered with my Krix Epicentrix centre, Neuphonix fronts and Apex rears with a Seismix 5 sub (my AVR is currently a Denon 2809).

So yeah, definitely looking forward to it and the improvements it will bring.

I have the same AVR, and have considered getting 2x or 3x UPA-1 (which each have single X-series amp module internally) monoblocks for some time, so I will be very keen to hear your feedback.

No they don't - you just think they do. Ignorance is bliss.

For what the 663 cost me, cos I got as a run out model at the time, and for what it does, it is great value. But if get something like a XPA 5 (or even a UPA 5), I can have myself a really powerful system, without me spending thousands of dollars ANd for the money side of things, I been reading those Emotiva power amplifiers are really great. If I had to find something that equals a XPA 5 in AUstralia, I reckon I be looking to spend close to $5000, if not more.
This would leave you amazed.at what your speakers are capable of.

To give you an idea, an AMC 2N100-5, which is 5 x 150w/ch, which is a reasonable qaulity amp (about the level of NAD) will set you back $2k.

On a side note - it's also worth checking the ratings on the power supplies of most AV Receivers. You often see 7 x 100w or similar claims, but then the power supply is rated to 450w. Since when does 450w divided by 7 result in 100w?

This thread seems like a good place to ask:

I have a pair of these hooked up to one of these.

I play stereo music via coax SPDIF, my room is a lounge room with concrete + tile floor.

When I turn up the volume to levels around "60" (whatever that means, "0" is no volume), the sound is quite tinny, and is definitely loud but doesn't sound as good as when the volume is lower. It feels on my ears like there is a lot of energy hitting them but it is harder to distinguish between the different parts of the music.

Am I imagining this specifically, ie, tricking myself into thinking there is a loss of definition, or is this actually happening due to my speakers/and or amplifier?

Amp specs:
Quote:
• 65 Watts/Channel @ 8 ohms (FTC)
• 100 Watts/Channel @ 6 ohms (IEC)
• 120 Watts/Channel @ 6 ohms (JEITA)
The speakers are 4 Ohm, I forget high school science, what does this mean for me? More than 120W per channel?

This could be your problem?
Maybe try some room dressings to reduce reflections.
