Well a 10" netbook has a larger screen than the tablets generally, so that doesn't make much sense.

I don't know whether these tablets will be good for you. The Notion Ink one is only a 10.1" screen, which is the same as many netbooks. If you want a decent amount of information on the screen then everything will have to be pretty small, and that'll make selecting things with the touch-screen somewhat difficult.

eeepcs come in 7", 9", and 10".

I have a 1005ha - 10", WirelessN, 250GB HDD, webcam+mic, SD card slot (you can boot from it), 6hr+ battery life, 10/100Mb LAN, a few USB ports and a VGA port. I've upgraded it to 2GB RAM too (from 1GB - there is an access panel on this model). I'm running dual boot Win7 (it came with it) and Ubuntu. These could be had for about $450 or so now probably.

The old 7" eeepcs are a poor reference of current netbooks!

Yeah it's easy to lose track of technology.

Pop on down to DSE, JBHifi, etc and check what they have. Have a quick read up on the Atom CPU models (they almost all use Atom CPUs these days), whether particular models can be upgraded easily (some have removable batteries and access panels to upgrade RAM, others don't), and if you're likely to replace the OS you should check hardware compatibility too (I'm a Linux user so it's very important to me).

This is an important point regarding the tablets. Windows is not an option on them; the ARM CPUs aren't x86 compatible.

Well except for this one I linked to earlier: http://www.archos.com/products/nb/ar...try=au&lang=en

I have no idea how much they go for though, my knowledge of them extends to what I've seen on their website and in a review.

edit: Oh and check wireless connectivity/compatibility with non-Windows/Linux tablets. For example most universities either are or are likely to be using in the future Eduroam - http://www.eduroam.edu.au/where-is-eduroam.html
