Default chat/messenger programs

being new to chat programs i would like some advice on the best/secure chat/messenger programs.
i have been using msn & trillian( i am guessing that trillian uses the msn network)and i have also been playing around with roger wilco but i find that if you have three or more people with r/wilco it becomes rather confusing and people just talk over each other.
my main function for this type of program would be to talk to friends o/s
& online games.
any suggestions would be appreciated.

regards drew

MSN is very secure (well except for an exploit that was found a few months ago with IE). Users cannot get your IP address unless you agree to transfer files or have a voice chat.

ICQ is probably the most unsecure.

I recommend MSN. It does everything you need, with a simple no bullshit interface. Because your using Trillian, that just makes it better.

Default re msn

thanks for the quick responce chazza.
i was little concerned with msn as the local pc tech has rather a strong dislike for msn as he seems to think it is rather prone to security problems?
the only real issue i have had with msn is the busy times.(4-7pm kids i guess)
whats the advantage with trillian, has it more security than messenger & can you still have a voice conversation as i have not found that option.

regards drew

trillian is great - all in one and very secure

it takes some getting used to IMHO
