Default URGENT - Upgrading from RC1 to Ultimate - fucked up majorly

So i was upgrading from RC1 to ultimate, and the power went out at step 3 (think it's called Gathering User information). I was installing from an extracted disk image (yeah I know) on drive E:\ - installing to drive C:\. Anyway, restarted, and low and behold drive E:\ is no longer accessible. It errors with:

E:\ is not acccessible.

Access is denied.

Now I never actually specified which drive to install to, assuming Windows installer would figure it out, this I'm fairly sure drive E:\ is simply put into a locked state by the installer, so people aren't changing installation files around accidentally or something.

Any ideas?

Andd.... solved. Permissions issue. Apparently I was right, and Windows Installer temporarily denies permission to all users besides SYSTEM.

Thanks for your help guys, much appreciated.

Yeah I was a bit freaked out at the prospect of having lost 1.9TB worth of tv, movies, music and uni work :P I have it backed up, but the most recent was like 2 months ago.

So you were doing a windows reinstallation but didn't think backing up your data was a smart idea?

Given I wasn't doing it on that drive, and assumed it would be left untouched, yeah, it wasn't too far fetched an idea. There is nothing on the C:\ drive besides Windows. I was just using my E:\ drive as an installation disk.

If experience has taught me anything, at minimum backup your uni / work stuff (and anything else you can't replace) before doing a reinstallation. It is easy to accidently select the wrong drive / have other issues.
