Yes but you can easily, and cheaply use a forwarding service from the US to Australia to take care of the limit on Amazon shipping.

That's the PSU I used but you can also see others there while at it.

Slightly off topic but sort along the same lines:

I was worried about idle power consumption of my home theater setup when off. LCD on standby, PS3 on standby, DVD player on standby, Subwoofer on standby and LCD tv on standby. I went to Bunnings and found an energy saving powerboard with a master switch. How it works is this: the board monitors the master appliance, if it's on the rest of the powerboard is enabled, if it's off, the powerboard is cut from power.

I have this set up so the master is the receiever which is drawing a very good ~0.5watts in standby. When I turn on the reciever, everything else connected to the board is activated and works per normal. When the reciever is off, all the components are switched off to power.

Total current draw at idle is now ~0.5W. Without this board, who knows? 30w+ 24/7?

Another application I have thought of is in the garage. Turn radio on, all the tools are powered, radio off, all the tools are disconnected.

I am sure you can apply this somehow to the PC room to save $??

Couldn't you check the consumption without the board? Kudos for the effort, but I've looked at the standby power of devices in my house, and it seems the government has really over-hyped the issue. For the cost and effort required, it seems people would be better off buying energy efficient globes and remembering to turn them off when they're not needed any more. And a few minutes less air-conditioning would probably make about the same difference again...

Unfortunately, I doubt it will do much in the shed - most tools are simply on or off. Standby power is caused when digital devices have features such as clocks, remote control receivers, etc... that are running when the devie isn't actually in use. A drill/saw/light shouldn't use any standby power.

Yeah you're probably right except it wasn't very expensive ($20?) as I needed a powerboard anyway and it's no trouble at all, just plug in appliances onto a board and thinking about which one to make master (about 20 seconds of thought). Was not at all a complicated matter!

EDIT: also it's a good surge protection solution too apparently since the appliances are then isolated to power once off. So if you get a surge only the master appliance is effected. (Which btw has never happend to me ever in 25 years living in sydney and I am wondering if surge protection a marketting ploy??)

if all you want is torrent then why not get this little bugger from dealextreme?

Standalone BitTorrent BT Client + UPNP USB/NAS/FTP/SAMBA/Printer Sharing Network LAN Server

I use it to share out a USB drive.

$40US

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.20383

It runs linux.

or you can grab a popcornhour and stream video as well as download torrents and usenet. All these use next to no power.

This may have been mentioned, I havent got time to read this whole thread at work, but for this task I use one of these:

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.20383

flashed with the firmware from here:

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.20383

which, with a usb HDD gives me an awesome little torrent box that draws well under 20w.

Can anyone tell me, if I setup a dedicated Linux NAS is it possible for me inside Firefox in my Windows 7 Main desktop set it to load torrents 'into' that Linux NAS? What's the best way to do this? I definitely do not want to manually copy URL's or upload each torrent file into the NAS.

But other than that, a web front end and a resulting Samba share is perfect for my needs.

What's the firmware? I think I'll buy this just to play with it!

I'm still considering the Fit-PC, specially because I'll be in the USA next week. Maybe I get can amazon.com to deliver it to my hotel.

Thanks

What are these thigns like in the long term. Thinking about getting one to act as our primary file server at home and then swtiching hte current HTPC/server over to a WoL sleep machine which only wakes when you need files off it.
