Default BF1942 problems

I d'l the demo from GA. Installed it, but now, when I try to run it, it starts, screen goes blank, then i get a windows error sound and im back to the desktop.

No errors or anything printed.

I asked a question in #gamearena and apparently a few people are getting this too. Anyone know a fix?

Correct, BF1942 MPdemo will not work unless your refresh rate is 60Hz. I think.

If you get something like PowerStrip, I'm fairly sure you can attach a profile to BF1942 so it will switch your refresh rate when you run the game, and switch it back when you close it.

I run the mp demo at 100Hz and 1024x768@32bit. I've set custom refresh rates for all resolutions through Powerstrip (thus eliminating the need for any nvrefresh etc).

GF3 Ti200 with 23.12 Dets.
Desktop res/refresh is 1440x1080@32bit/85Hz.

You're sure WinXP isn't knocking the refresh back down to 60Hz as it tends to do? I hope you're right and the game isn't as buggy as I thought.

both single and multipayer demos work fine on my athlon at 1024x768@75hz (gf4mx440, 256mb generic sdram, yumcha everything, win98se)
hehehe, very bottom of the range system dont ya think?

the only problem i ever had with the single player was the text was all screwy, played around with the resolutions, graphic setings until it worked

Better than mine.

Athlon 1350, MX400@200/133, 256MB PC133@150, WinXP Pro.

The game runs alright at 1024x768 if I drop the texture quality, but I have had a smooth multiplayer game yet thanks to the servers getting raped.

I haven't played online yet (I probably won't even try with this 56k). LAN play however is great fun

so what is the fix ?

Seems win98 as no problems with the game at any resolution and refresh rate.

Is the problem only linked to XP and 60Hz?
