Not meaning to be a troll but 900 bucks for a fuking furnace that is pretty much on par with a bog standard HD5870 that costs under 500 bucks, your joking right ??

And you'd need WC (and LN2 would be even better) and a shunt into the local electricity grid to even think about a dual core version that IMHO will NEVER be released unless its a crippled die shrink and cost over 1200 bucks

Oh and expect the cops to come a knockin on your door looking for your concealed hydroponic dope crop

215W * (480 / 448 shaders) * (700 / 607 MHz) = 266W expected TDP.
Well, I guess there's not much data to go by, but it just seems to be larger than expected to me.

I wouldn't expect power consumption to scale linearly with clockspeed to be honest. it normally doesn't in practice with leakage and other logic units not linked to it taken into consideration.

The disabled shaders, Smaller memory interface (disabled portion) and less physical RAM may be more convincing reason for the difference I guess.

I'm pretty sure, for example the HD5850 runs a lower core voltage that then 5870. Which probably counts more towards the difference in TDP of those cards. I suspect a similar thing exists here, but with a much worse situation as a result.

Will find out soon I guess when people start playing with it.

You would have to be One Dangerously insane idividual to buy a GTX 480 in AUS when you can Get a HD5970 for $830 which RAPES it and uses LESS power.

It really is such a shame Fermi couldnt deliver.... i want some cheap HD5870s!

That's also a mistake, the price is $561, though they still haven't fixed that page.
They probly did it on purpose to get page hits and some ppl will buy other things while they're there.
We see this type of thing quite often.

That's heaps cheaper then the $1000+ AU price for in stock 5970's. It's cheaper to buy 2 5870 then 1 5970 for me here in QLD

I wonder how much the 400 series will improve with some maturity in the drivers?

Over 9000%

noone is really sure i think, we could see 10-20% across the board perhaps? alot of reviewers seem to think the current drivers are pretty useless.

For me, a "SHOT OF ADRENALIN" would be some drivers which would work properly. NVidia just come across as filthy whores now.

After supporting both AMD and Nvidia for 10 years, all I'm left with is a bitter taste in my mouth.

IMHO all you guys holding out for a gtx485 wont see one... they were already 6 months late why do you think they'd spend another 6 refreshing it? Wouldnt they rather just get another card out lol.

I'm interested to see what the 480 cuda cores will do. I think using current games as a benchmark is a bit like testing out a zonda on a dirt road. Not to mention Nvidia's tendancy to give stupid speed increases just by fixing their drivers.

I'm more interested to see how it will work with adobe creative suit cs5. I get the impression this is what this card is at least partially aimed at.

For current games though, ati seems to have it all sowed up for now.

They're the same people who wouldn't buy a HD 5870 or HD 5970 because the GTX 400 series was around the corner.

Who really got the last laugh now?

Good on the people I say who just took the jump on the HD 5800 and HD 5900 series. They've been enjoying top notch DX11 gaming for months; and just general top notch gaming for the same amount of time.
