By law you're allowed an on-the-spot replacement within 28 days if you've been sold anything faulty from an australian retailer.

does that cover if you broke it though

Anyhow best thing to do is pull it out and try the works and remove one thing at a time to problem solve. Try 1 dimm of ram and check your book on where to place it when running that config. The pc speaker is the best way if ya got powerup and helped me after i found my 3 dimms where in the wrong slots lol. Check your video card ect as well maybe seating is casuing the problem, it does happen so make sure its 90* and dead square also the contacts r clean ect.

i would

unplug all cables.

loosen mobo screws and realign so all the screws are perfectly centered.

insert gfx card and make sure it is a perfect 90* angle but dont screw it into place yet.

do same with any other cards.

plug the power cables in and make sure the copper connectors inside the plugs aren't misaligned. forget about tidyness for the moment.

plug the first HD into the 2nd SATA port, and the DVD into 1st SATA port.

keep the case lying on its side.

you could also try video card in pcie2x16 slot instead of pcie1x16 slot.

Thanks again for the replies.

Please note:
The PC was working for around 4 hrs, I did the pre "cable tie" tests... everything checked out using Express Gate.

Then cable tied everything nice and neat, installed the Win7 x64 + video + audio drivers + Intel Rapid Storage... then while I was looking through my drives it died.

============================================

Now the Mobo is on a box with only the CPU + heatsink + 1 DIM... nothing.

I'm going to try and get a sys speaker from Dick's.

Latest:

Got the system speaker... plugged it in > plugged PSU in > press mobo pwr button > everything spins up (on the box, not in case).

Pwr off > connect graphics card > Pwr on > No Keyboard detected > Windows shut down wrong Safe/Normal > Press restart button to go in to bios > system restarts > press Tab to view messages > system shuts down.

So it's back to being dead.

Pwr on to hear beeps > no beeps > unplug > clear CMOS > nothing... no beeps, no activity.

What y'all reckon?

Long shot... tried diff keyboard and mouse? Doubt it's the problem but I have seen some dodgy USB/PS2 devices do some weird shit.

Well now I'm pissed and poorer... ended up taking it back for the retailer to test and it booted in to windows using their PSU, CPU & RAM, my Mobo... they understandably charged me a service fee.

So pick> CPU, Memory or the PSU with the P6X58D.

This is the 1st time I've ever had a build problem, they all always worked 1st time.

yeh it was kinda the reason I pushed on with the troubleshooting, high-er end Asus boards don't just die like that, Gigashat maybe...

I'm leaning towards RAM.

Take the whole lot in and try each individual piece of hardware until you have the issue pop up, easiest way to do it.

Nothing wrong with Asus or Gigabyte, used both numerous times over the issues without any issues.

It's the damn PSU... works in the x975 board but not in x58... WTF!

Took my old Antec Neo out from x975 build, plugged it in to the P6X58D and it all work.

Man I feel like a doosh... Seasonic x series nice box, PSU sucks.
