Default upgrading CPU and Windows

Well I'll be getting my new KT333 motherboard tomorrow. It'll be paired with a 1.2Ghz Thunderbird. I'll be fresh installing winxp.

Maybe next week or the week after, I'll be receiving my new XP2200+. Is there a need for me to fresh install winxp again?

Thanks

Jayel

Nope, if you're just changing the CPU there's no need to reinstall Windows

Actually, I think a reformat may well be necessary. The reason being, the AthlonXP's use SSE instructions, and windows will need to install the appropriate software for this. This is what was floating around the forums last time this discussion was brought up, tho I'm not sure I know how much truth there is behind it. Perhaps some of our friends in the Windows Operating Systems forums can help us

Yeah Lombers I'm pretty sure that is correct with regard to SSE. Anyway with regard to just general stability, my dad went from a 1.4 gig Tbird on a KT133A to an XP 1800+ on a KT333 without changing a thing with np's. He has since reinstalled WinXP for other reasons though.

One of the good things about XP is its ability to accept different hardware. You don't even NEED to reinstall after the motherboard update, although most people prefer to.

The shit thing about XP is that its compiled for the lowest possible processor - so even if you have the fastest processor available its still not 'optimised' for it.

If it were me, I'd try the new processor without a reinstall but run SiSoft Sandra. If everything seems to be working ok, then dont bother reinstalling..
