Default iphone auto on auto off

Hi there everyone.
I just received my new iphone 3Gs 16GB Friday night. I previously had the BlackBerry curve. One fantastic features of the BB was auto off auto on. SO i set it to turn off each night at a particular time so i wouldnt be disturbed if i was sent a txt message late at night and would see it first thing in the morning.
Does the iphone have this kind of feature.

Basically what i want to do is have it switch off at a certain time each night during the week and switch on at a certain time each morning regardless of what time i set the alarm to go off. I set different on / off times for the weekend.

I hope my request makes sense and look forward to your answers.

obviously ive only had this thing for two days and i must say, my initial impression is that i dont know what all the fuss is about.
I think apple have found a way to make people waste their precious time and feel like they are actually achieving something, or that they are doing something constructive. The only reason i got this phone is that logmein have an app that allows me to log into the office pc and take over the pc when the office staff have trouble as if i were there. other than that, for me, the BB runs rings around the iphone. quicker to type, more accurate, quicker to make calls, auto on/off just to name a few. The large screen is nice though.
Edit. Perhaps someone should write an app for this. is there somewhere that you can make requests for apps?

If you made a request, it would be swarmed on by thousands of people willing to do it. That being said, I don't know of anywhere to make a request. Pm me if you're interested though

Is flicking it to silent at night really so difficult?

It has a hardware switch to do it and all...

Jailbreak your iphone and grab this

You can Jailbreak now it seems. Try to look out for free cydia apps that can perform your desired operation.

Why is it sad? It's just an app that happens to require your phone to be jailbroken - what incentive is there for devs to write good jailbroken apps if they can't sell it? Do you think you deserve their work for free for some reason?

Why wouldn't it be legal, it isn't pirated and it doesn't have anything to do with pirating - it is just an app that requires you have full access to the phone (jailbroken) instead of just user-level access (normal) - just like some windows/OSX programs require an administrator to be logged in before they can install.

OP- The only way this would work would be as a jailbroken app. You're probably best off waiting until OS4 comes out in a couple of months as no doubt there will be a jailbreak released then (there was no incentive for them to jailbreak 3.1.3 as it doesn't add any features over 3.1.2 for existing users).

I had an old ericsson that used to auto off/on and it was fantastic. Off at midnight, on at 6am, and you gain an extra 25% standby time as well, which was awesome.

I discovered the silent switch and i will be switching to silent at night time, however, it still does vibrate when a message is received. I still think the auto on/off feature is more usefull than switching to silent. Its a pretty basic one too. you would expect it to be available, especially with the extra battery life you could gain.

You can set it to not vibrate when on silent.

Settings > Sounds > Vibrate (under silent) to off.

Yep this

You'll get used to the iphone keyboard, after abit of use i'm faster on an iphone than i was on my blackberry and other guys at work that have made the switch say the same.

Quicker to make calls?? Have you set up a favorites list? Then you just doubletap the home button, takes you instantly there from wherever you are and just tap on the person. Or just go into favorites through the phone app.
