started benching this rig
i5 650 asus P7P55D a-data 2000x 2x2gb 2000mhz 8800 gts 640mb vapochill LS this is my vapochill LS i added a second 120mm fan to the condensor to help with load temps. i made a wooden mount because i couldn't afford or wait for a proper s1156 mount. it looks funny but it works well. Click to view full size! i reached the limit of what i could accomplish with that system. being a cheaper motherboard, the max vCORE is 1.7v. i wanted more. so i started looking at the chips around the cpu area to try to figure out a voltmod. i found one which i thought was for cpu voltage, found the datasheet and figured out the mod. jaycar was shut so i used fixed resistors, starting from 200k ohms, to 150k to 100k to 50k. no change in voltage. i had one 10k ohm variable resistor (multiturn trimpot). which i used last. turned down and no change to cpu voltage. then the screen froze. i noticed the IMC voltage was 1.57v. way higher than i had set. turned VR back up, rebooted into bios hardware monitor, and the voltmod works. only its for the IMC/VTT voltage. not a bad effort for the first vmod ive tried to figure out myself. so i tried another chip (EPU) but no luck. there was another chip (PEM) but no datasheet so who knows what the FB pin is out of about 42 pins. i think the EPU chip and the PEM chip work together to control the VRM. god knows how to do a vmod with two chips. vmods are totally unrequired on the higher model P7P55D deluxe etc. Click to view full size! Click to view full size! i feel the 650 i got was from a better batch than the 670, but what can you do. still got some decent scores though. Click to view full size! Click to view full size! Click to view full size! Click to view full size! Click to view full size! i only posted screenshots of my best scores. most of my time after these was trying to better my superpi 32M. later finding out i need a cpu with more cache to compete with the 980x benchers for that particular benchmark. i did manage the fastest 1M time though of us three in the poll. im happy with that. BTW the i5 670 needed well over 1.7v to reach those clocks anyhoo thanks for reading. hope you will vote for me. muz
