Default 27" vs 22" Monitor

Hi Guys,

either i have downs or im just not searching in google for the right thing but im trying to find either a picture of a 27" monitor next to a 22" one or a diagram of the difference between the two

trying to work out how much bigger a 27" one would be compared to the 22" i have at the moment (and yes its going to be 5" bigger but that doesnt tell me how much higher/wider it'll actually be on my desk)

Anyone have this sort of setup or able to link me to a pic?

Question

I actually downsized from my 27" Samsung sync master to a 23" Alienware 120hz monitor.

I still own both, but I swap them around, depending on which game I'm playing, or what I'm doing with them.

What do you plan on doing with your screen real estate?

well atm i have 2 x 22" so i was planning on replacing one for photoshop, uni work (word etc), tv/movie watching and possibly games depending what it is (ie wow... fps stays on the 22)

word documents is probably the biggy.

been working on some fairly big assignments for uni lately and they're going to get worse as the year goes on and i find myself squinting at the 22" too much

edit;
but yeah.. any pic of some sort of the two sizes to show the difference would be great

I can get you a picture tonight (so long as I remember!). The difference is big though, I looove the size of 27", it's so awesome! But some people think it's too big too... The only reason I don't like the 27" for FPS games, is that you HAVE to run vertical sync on any fast paced game, and with that comes input lag.

A 27" is perfect for movies, word processing and other software packages though.

Im confused. You know the aspect ratio and the diagonal size. Can you not work out the height x width dimensions from this? Hell, draw it on a piece of cardboard and cut it out if you are really curious.

If you're having to squint too much then its probably not the size of the screen but rather the resolution you are running. Text will appear smaller if your resolution is higher and this will not be corrected by a larger screen. Try changing your resolution.

The larger screen will only give you more space to have things open on, if this is your goal then maybe just look at another 22" to add to your existing setup.

Well, no. The res does matter, but if one screen is bigger at the same resolution, then the text, etc will be bigger.

That's why I said it probably won't. The text does not become noticeably easier to read because of larger pixel pitch (also using a larger screen the native res is usually higher which negates any stretching). Alternatively you could use larger text dpi. there is an option in W7 for this.

To get a feel for it, try making a paper model the same size and put it at your desk.

You will gain huge realestate, but can it be used effectively.

I know running photoshop/gimp (for textures and retouch) a 3D rendering package at the same time, I could use 3 x 32" screens, esp with programs like max that cut up view ports to really function. Excel spreadsheets with huge number of cells are also an area where scrolling isn't just a pain it majorly hampers efficency.

But for word documents I don't see the same sort of benefit. Im on a 23" and it seems fine. for that @ 1920x1080.
