I'm showing a friend from Switzerland around the city tomorrow and I'd love her to see the real raw arty culture to Melbourne. There'll be the general main street sights, but I don't really know where the alleys that showcase the underlaying vibe of Melbourne are.
I know, albeit years ago, I've seen an alley which was set-up with a fridge (or something similar) 'wedged' between the walls of two buildings and a lot of stencil art scattered around the walls. Does anyone know what laneway this is? I know it's an artificial representation of what I'm after, but I feel it'll summarise it well. Edit: Shoot! I totally forgot about the Photography forum. Sorry, I just read 'Art' and thought "oh here we go".

Hi Mate,
theres some good art on the fence to the left of hoddle street right near the freeway. Also, coming down hoddle heading to the city there is a street called york, give that a go. Also around swan street in Richmond. |

Hoiser lane has some pretty cool graffiti art, and there's another place nearby (i forget the street) that had a bansky, until somone poured silver paint on top of it.
