Galaxy - 1 bar if I'm lucky, often no bars (but still connected, only just)

But because of the wireless N, 1 bar still means 58mbs, my girlfriends Desire is on nearly full bars in the same room too (but only wireless b/g at 18mbs)

Is this is a software thing? Or just poor antenna design (same issue with phone signal 1 bar at the moment, and I live in suburbia)
desire needs wireless N activated usually via a custom ROM that activates it.

the DJDroid series of desire custom ROMs sets up 802.11n by default.

Streak; For:
  • 5" LCD
  • Flash
  • Size
  • HDMI out (eventually?)
  • Front facing camera
Streak; Against:
  • Proprietary plug
  • No USB charging (with a standard micro-USB)
  • 20fps camera
  • 802.11g
  • Size
  • No radio
  • Bluetooth 2
Galaxy; For:
  • Touch-to-focus
  • USB charging
  • Super AMOLED
  • 30fps camera
  • 802.11n
  • Radio
  • Video out
  • Bluetooth 3
Galaxy; Against:
  • No flash
  • 4" display
I had posted this list in the Dell Streak thread, thought ppl here would be interested in the list in this thread too!
Just a point. You've listed 5" as a For yet Size as an Against on the Streak. Then listed 4" as an Against on the SGS. You can't have both

Android isn't like Apple, you can download any apk from any website and install it. You just gotta make sure Unknown sources under Applications is ticked. I had the Optus APK emailed to me by a mate after the first time I updated firmware. In fact there are even alternate markets such as SlideMe.

no usb charging is probably the biggest let down of the streak....otherwise the differences seem pretty minimal. comes to to screen size/quality in the end i think. hdmi output i can live without. the sgs outputs video nice enough. (also it does have a front facing camera too)

Yes, yes I can I CAN HAVE IT ALL!! Er, no, wait. The size of the Streak is an advantage and a disadvantage, it's great to have a big screen, but that means that you have a big device to cram into your pocket - not a problem if you have big pockets (e.g. cargo pants), but if you are wearing normal business pants, you look like you have some kind of weird disease which causes one flat hip...

Yeah I know what ya mean. I think 4" is plenty in a screen, if I want bigger I'll buy a tablet.

It's pretty easy. What firmware version are you running? If you know that, you just get the latest version.

JG3 is 2.1 July 2010 firmware, you'll need to update firmware before running cf-root. See the title of that thread you linked? JPH JPK JP6 JPM JPA JPO only.

I'm running the Doc Froyo ROM. Takes a little extra work then just flashing with odin. You need the CWM installed, it has slot of the apps striped out, even swype. Easy tof install what you want.

I just restored a lot of apps using Titanium backup and it restored my progress with Angry birds Make sure you backup the APK and the data.

Update Google Maps boys, Google just brought out their beta version of their free GPS turn by turn navigation software.

Just tested it out. Pretty sweet.

Most people were using Brut (the hacked version) anyway, I know I was.

It is pretty nifty, except hearing the "data connection lost" spoken to me every 2 minutes (stupid optus)
