Hi Guys,
I've been following this thread with interest since Ram and I tried removing the AG coating from one of his displays a couple of weeks ago. We both purchased two of these LCD's and have since returned 3 out of the 4 units, if not for the education tax rebate this would have been 4 out of 4. In looking around a little I discovered a somewhat old article alluding to an Apple 27" Cinema display that was poised to be released sometime in June. Obviously this hasn't happened as yet, I guess there's a small glimmer of hope that this may in fact be on the cards shortly. Given the difference in quality and the drawback with the U2711 I think I would gladly pay the premium Apple price to have the display working as intended. There's definitely a world of difference between the U2711 with AG (that I'm currently using) and the 27" Apple screen that's currently only available with the bundled imac. http://www.appleinsider.com/articles...e_mac_pro.html |

I've just noticed another issue with my display; when I press on the middle the whole thing kind of caves in, it looks like the center of the screen has buckled out a bit...
This is only really visible when the screen is showing black (not even visible when it's off, only black), as you can see that the corners are brighter and the center is darker. Did I put it back together wrong? You would think the glass would hold it all level. EDIT: After turning it off and examining it with a flashlight, I actually think that the whole thing is moving back and forth, not buckling. Apparently I messed something up when putting it back together. Last edited by synthc; 21st July 2010 at 12:40 AM. |

Uhhh why? ALL professional screens have anti-glare pannels, and DO NOT HAVE GLOSS...

Let me rephrase I mean marketing it as a professional display with Dells cheap ass version of a ag coating. All cinema displays I have used and eizo panels are AG also but have a nice smooth uniform image without grain.

Skin tone's with high amount of display grain is terrible to work with. especially when trying trying to edit blemishes. i dont know if im just more sensitive to it. but it was photo editing that made me do this in the first place. Im not sure how a glossy screen would have anything to do with reduction in quality of picture as there is less in the way to disturb your image. to me its the equivilent of putting a cheap as shit filter over your L series lens'... why would you? And if you are setting up your room and monitor correctly then reflections on glossy screens shouldn't be an issue.

Hello again guys.
I just want to tell you that Dell swapped my "destroyed" model. Its been 2 months since I gave it to them, and I have heard nothing, so I think im on the clear. Maybe DELL germany is just to busy to take notice :-) So I am back in business... one more try ? Nah.
