I had a look at voip usage calculators. they vary quite a bit (even with the same codec). But I guess at the end of the day even if there is a few hundred minutes of usage, calling another mobile is still going to hit me in the pocket, added to the flat 49 or 29+10+10 that I will be paying. Calling a fixed line would be sweet though.

Having a quick look at the terms, I can switch plans with vodafone and try them both.

Oh, Mitch I was wondering about using sip voip on the data part of the vodafone plan.

Hmm, what about calling between smartphones with voip setup on them... anyone?? Wouldnt it be free except for the data it used??

Hell it seems like a sweet phone, I should just go get one

You can go up plans without addittional cost, but can't downgrade.

Also VOIP requires specific ports (if my memory serves me correct).

As Vodafone is the internet proxy (per se) for all data transmission, I'd be very suprised if they haven't blocked VOIP ports as to not have their network saturated, and force people to use their mobile network.

Unless you ues your phone all the time, $350 or whatever is a decent amount of data.

Also, you do realise the $29 + $10 + $10 (24/12 month), and the $49 (24 month) are more expensive than the $79 12 month plan?

$79 a month = 1GB data = 12 month plan = $948 overall
$49 a month = 50MB/1GB Data = 24 month plan = $1176 overall.

I did a fair bit of googling last night. I didnt see anywhere that voda has blocked the ports (but it wouldnt surprise me), and did read somewhere about local laws forbidding them to do it a few years ago for some fancy nokia.

I thought the TnC said ok to swap, but only once a month. Nothing about plan value. I better look again... After I rush out and get the phone

Yea, I saw your earlier post about 12/24 month value, but I just cant go 79/m for a phone. My budget wont allow it.

From the specs it doesn't appear to come with a larger card.

Comes with a 2gb Sandisk Card.

OH and do yourselves a favour... head over to Jaycar and grab the Digitech Mini Card Reader (XC4759) for $10.

It's the size of a fingernail and friggin brilliant.

I bought 3. One for home, work and notebook bag.

ditto.

Just got one of these to replace a sony c905 (which was returend unrepaired after the 8th repair from vodafone) so very very happy!

Looking at the class 6 or 10 but wondering if it worth spending the extra for faster write speeds?

With the HTC legend can you have wifi on while keeping the mobile data off.

Brother is looking at getting the HTC phone on the $29 plan and is happy to use internet while at uni which has wifi.

not really worth it, you would barely notice the difference, if at all. unless you were moving great lumps of data between card and pc.
