Default Digital Camera and Red Eye Removal

Hello Gang,

I've recently purchased a new Canon Ixus 300 and its great. Although it has a red eye reduction feature, i have taken some very important pics with this feature off and now i have some valuable pics with severe red-eye.

The software (Arcsoft Photoimpression 3.0) that came with the camera has a function to remove red-eye, but all this does is simply place a circle of grey-brownish pain over the area you designate as the "red-eye". Basically its really the dogs bollocks.

Does anyone out there use something esle for removing red-eye in photos? Something that actually has some degree of intelligence about the whole process? Something that automates this process for a large number of photos?

Thanks in advance peeps!

I dont think there would be anything that can do this automatically, as the program is only going to see pixels, and cannot determine what is red eye and what is a red windcheater for instance...

How many photos exatly are we talking about here? It could be done in Photoshop, would take a bit of time to do each one properly but a combination of masking, and hue/saturation adjustment would fix it up fairly well I imagine...

Mind posting one of these photos to guage how bad it is?

There's a little proggie out there called Kai's Photo Soap.

This has a dedicated redeye removal filter. Like many of Kai Krause's products, it's amazingly good at the tiny little thing it specialises in.

Might be worth a look into. It does a lot of other good stuff to photos as well, hence the name. It's mainly aimed at those without the skill / $'s to do it with the 'Shop.

just go to google.com and do an image search for eyes, get the right color for the photo and replicate it in photoshop

voila - the cheapskates way

Acdsee has an inbuilt feature in "image enhancer". I've only used it once and it's not fullyautomated because u've got to select the required area and specify original eye colour.

You could always make an Action in Photoshop, so that all you need to do is circle-marquee-select the red eye area, then press some hotkey...
