Aww.. to be fair to NWN (a game I got a lot of enjoyment out of), the tileset approach was a design decision due to the goal of NWN to afford a simulated/virtual experience akin to physical DnD. In short it was so that a player could in an almost lego style approach construct their own adventures (modules), and have these controlled by a Dungeon Master. The actual single player module (game) was really just an example of what could be achieved with the game system and tools provided, an not a particularly great one at that - hence why I think many who were just after a sequel to Baldur's Gate felt let down.

I think I'm going to have to pretend that this game never existed. With DA:O, after the horrible textures the only thing that kept me going was the gameplay (which is a personal liking of mine), and the storyline. And even then, where are a plethora of mods... Personally, DA2 failed on all fronts, but to a lesser degree with gameplay. I did like the characters, however. Incredibly, the most shocking thing about this game is the assumption that the story is actually going to be gripping. The epilogue was really short, but not short of a fail.

Maybe I'll be a little understanding if they would at least admit they rushed this damn game and for the sake of having any kind of DLC pulled Sebastian out of it. Sorely disappointed. Just ridiculous...

The only way this game could have been better was possible by making the ending that actually occur to instead occur in Act 1 and then go from there. If I were to compare it to DA:O at any level then I feel like I just played the until the end of Ostagar where I woke up in the Witch's hut and then the game just ended abruptly. =\

Funny peoples different tolerances for visuals. I've been playing a lot of vintage games lately, and while I would love them to look better I don't really mind. Likewise I really didn't find DA:O too bad. Curious if you've playing on PC or Xbox?

Either way, this thread has made me hold off getting DA2 until its a $5 steam special.

As an aside, I believe some DLC has been released. Whats peoples opinions of this? ... if anyone is still playing it that is

Most of the DLC has been starter items for those new to the game but "Legacy" will be released later this month and is expected to be a bit more substantial.

I'm currently going through DA2 for the second time, (this time with a DA:O import), in preparation for Legacy.

Maybe. Can't really say for sure. There are, however, an abundant amount of disappointed people.

As far as graphics go. I think I'm generally pretty forgiving if the rest of the game is satisfactory. But, DA2 just didn't do it for me. Specifically, the end crushed me. I don't even know if I want Legacy.

This isn't because the characters or graphics are bad, but simply because it seems so unfinished. When you finish the game, there just doesn't seem like there's any cliff hanging point of continuation with this game. It's relation to DA:O is only in name, a couple of cameos and some minor references to your hero if you imported. It didn't feel like they built on DA:O mysteries either, except for the mirror and even then minimally.

*SPOILERS*
Still, I can forgive this because my impression is that DA2 wanted to be its own story. But they fucked that up, too. In fact one of my biggest beef with the story is how it doesn't really take into consideration a major choice in specializing as a Blood Mage. You're running around with the biggest look of shock and disgust for Blood Mages, except you are one yourself. And nobody seems to even notice this. And it blows my mind how in DA:O you had to deal with a demon to gain this specialization, yet in DA2 you just get it. In my opinion, the game is either unfinished or full of critical errors and poor judgement.

I will admit they had some interesting ideas with the lyrium idol, mysterious thaig and Orsino unknowingly/unwillingly having a hand in the murder of Hawke's mother, but they just didn't build on this as effectively as they could have.

Bioware set themselves up with the greatness of DA:O and in my opinion failed to deliver with DA2. Here's hoping DA3, if ever, will be their point of redemption.

*SPOILERS*

Also, for the record, I played on PC.

Giving this a go very soon. Is it as long as the first Dragon Age game play wise?

Not as long as DA:O.
