Default Canon 400d owners, hacked your firmware?

I've been reading online that there are additional firmware that can be added to ones canon 400d to allow spot metering and an ISO speed of 3200.

http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...d.php?t=742806

wondering if anyone here has done it and what their results are?

is it worth doing it? i am concerned that the firmware might crash or camera becomes unresponsive/unreliable..etc..

thanks

You need to hack it to get that shit? Fuck me!

If you brick it, consider it a useful upgrade

haha...

unfortunately ISO3200 is not available out of the box with the 400d. I think even my P&S does ISO 3200... sure would come in handy for night shits.

ISO1600 is unusable enough on the 400D, I would hate to try 3200. I dont really see a need to try this, upgrade your body if you need higher ISO

I've tried it.
3200 is too noisy, and it's a pain to have to use a dedicated CF card to boot the firmware.

So instead of replacing the firmware as the original hack in the 300D did, it just uses a bootable CF card?

No chance of bricking, and a simple matter of swapping CF cards to revert back to standard firmware?

As much as I hated my 400D, ISO 1600 was definitely usable.

Pretty sure there is already a thread on this, but I thinkt he hack is worth it. IT actually allows a lot more than just spot metering and high ISO. It also allows you to use scripts - for example, a script to trigger the shutter when there is a bright flash (like lightning).
