Default Polarising filters

Well, I've got a GF1 that I'm using mainly for street photography. I know that polarising filters are good for conditions where there's a lot of reflections or glare, and since I'm out in the open all the time, is it worthwhile getting one?

Also, I'd like to know the different type of polarising filters, such as PL and CIR. Also what brands are decent on a budget (don't want to spend heaps on something like a B+W). Cheers!

There are two types of Polarizer, the common Circular Polarizer (CIR-PL for short) and the not so common Linear Polarizer (L-PL for short). Difference between an CIR-PL and an L-PL:
  • L-PL has a single fixed filter element, which can't be rotated.
  • CIR-PL has two filter elements, on fixed, the other a rotatable filter element which allows you filter out light/reflections at various angles.

You can ignore the L-PL. You want a CIR-PL, these are designed for Digital Cameras.

Marumi, Cokin, and Hoya (Tokina) make cheap filters. I use Hoya. I buy my filters off ebay.

Here's a good CPL test. http://www.lenstip.com/115.4-article...d_summary.html
Marumi seems to be good value, cheap enough on ebay.

I have used a Hoya CPL before. They are decent. You can get them for around $30 from ebay...
