Default Cheap genuine memory cards?

Anyone got a good source? Looking at 8-16gb Sandisk Class 6 SD cards (as I've always just used them) but open to any other suggestions. I believe the decent brands are all basically the same anyways. Gotta be genuine. Buy from wherever as long as postage isn't too much.

I've bought multiple CF and SD cards from http://www.betterit.com.au/scripts/default.asp

Edit: Sandisk Ultra SD 16GB for $58.36

Cool, what's the G-O in terms of "industry standards" - if there even are any.. 8gb or 16gb these days? 32gb is probably getting a bit ridiculous... and I would probably prefer 2 x 16 in this case anyway. My main worry is astrophotograhy, so think ~30 min + light frame exposures (in RAW) for a single shot.

And I've currently got 1 x Sandisk Extreme III (Class 6) card.. Is ultra enough for a Pentax K-x, always shooting in RAW? May need to shoot good quality video at a wedding early next year.

I usually just check out Static Ice for prices and go based on shipping, stock or pickup

Pick whichever size suits your budget, it's write speed which is usually of concern.

I don't fork out the extra cash for high write speeds, my Scandisk Extreme works very well for what I do. If you're doing primarily astro, the I wouldn't be too worried about it, as you're not going to experience lag when doing 30min exposures

If you're after Sandisk Extreme SDHC, you can also try locating a store on there with a physical location, and get OfficeWorks to price match it instore (with 5% discount)

How does this work? Do I take a print-out of the website, or does OfficeWorks just call the other store up to ask if they have it?

I wish the MSY pricelist actually specified the class of each brand though.

EDIT: Just discovered MSY's new online storefront. Patriot 16gb Class10 for $46!!!

Yup, just go in with a print out of the item. OfficeWorks will just call up the store and confirm price and check whether it's in stock.

(sidenote: if the store is only online, they will take 5% off item PLUS shipping - hence the need to get price from a physical store)

Yeah. I've heard cheap brands claiming Class 10 is BS though, i.e. you are better off with a brand name Class 6.

I've already bought one this morning, here's a screenshot for performance.

There are some reviews on the net of people experiencing corruption, but I've cycled 48gb of data through mine now with no corruption whatsoever. Also did a chkdsk, and no bad sectors reported. Seems to be a lucky dip. The other 2/3 of people unaffected seem to be perfectly happy with their cards.

The majority of the problems seem to come from people using this card with 550Ds, works perfect in my 450D though..

curious, kraniX, did you do the performance test out of camera or via an external SD card reader?
