Default Arctic Cooling Accelero XTREME 5970

Hi all

Just wondering if anybody is using the Arctic Cooling Accelero XTREME 5970 and their thoughts on it regarding installation and performance.

I have searched for reviews but there dosent seem to be any that are particularily useful. I have a 5970 and the fan is a little niosy at times so i was thinking of giving it a go.

any input would be appreciated

I have read that the mounting has caused a lot of damage to peoples cards.

I don't know if this has been sorted yet or not.

Yes I have it, yes its easy to install (one of my DVI ports have died due to their initial instructions from AC to tighten the screws to 100%. Now their new instructions are tighten the screws to 50%, GG for all the first buyers )

Performance is good, idle is around 35C and full gaming load can get to around 60C~ @ 70% manual fan control and it is very quiet.

Be careful of their fans. I had an Accelero 4870X2, first fan died after about 5 months, replacement fan died after 1 month.

But they are damn quiet and cool very well. Triple slot cooler though, if they have changed the design.

I wished they would make another run of the 4870X2 batch to replace our old ones.

well picked up one of these yesterday and installed today.

All very straight forward and no issues.Glad to get rid of that rattling stock cooler and temps are fantastic.

Must say i was a little worried after reading some of the horror stories of some people with installing this hsf and bricking the card, just made sure i didnt over tighten the x plates over the gpu's as instructed and all is good.

Luck of the draw really. I contacted Arctic Cooling some time ago about the issue and they stated that their internal testing didn't kill the cards that they tested the cooler with.

With such a long card like the 5970, i think the majority of damage is user related, either when removing the existing cooling solution or installing the new one.

I know it's a long shot, but does anyone know where to get one of these from?

All the shops on StaticIce that I've contacted (and that have bothered to reply ) have said they have no more stock, and a few have said the supplier won't have anymore.

I don't mind having to import, and if anyone knows of a store that still has one, I'd be all ears.

Arctic Coolings website says they have stock, but be prepared to pay a premium. US$75.69 for the heatsink itself, plus US$67.40 for delivery (total US$143.09).

~$100 to get one imported from the UK. Might just stick with my original plan then.
