Default Motherboard repairs...?

What are my chances of getting bent CPU pins on the motherboard repaired under warranty?

Is it possible to get the board repaired at a cost or do I have to buy a new one?

I bought a second hand X58A-UD5 with 2 bent pins. I got it working with my 930 but it won't play with my 980x.

It's not good tbh with you. I had a friend of mine bend pins on a msi x58 eclipse that he bought from fluidtek, was refused warranty however Eddie said he knew a MSI rep and would try to pass it by him to see if it could get done. The MSI rep rejected the repair request and thus he had to buy a new motherboard, luckily for him however his mum was nice and reimbursed him the costs of that motherboard out of sympathy/love (nice mum lol).

Apparently though at around the same time, quite a few people manged to bend pins on the board. How they managed to do it I don't know, but some I've spoken to were surprised they did it seeing as they'd never done it with a 775 socket. This may be partly due to the fact that 1366 pins are a lot more fragile than the 775 pins.

You could try and bent them back into place with tweasers or use a pen/pencil to re-align the pin into the same shape as the other pins, but apart from that there's not a lot of options as the view of suppliers/stores/manufactures is that it is user damage.

asus do it for $30pp or so... out of warranty, you actually get a whole new socket most of the time. no idea about GA, best contacting the aussie distro.

I've had the CPU out a dozen times and made tiny adjustments to the pins.
I have no idea how they where damaged, I am very careful when seating the CPU and I make sure only the base of the CPU makes contact with the pins. I have a feeling they were like that when I received the board...

I heard you can pay for a new socket. Given this is nearly a $400 board I can live with spending a bit to get it repaired.

Who is the distributor for Gigabyte?
Should I try RMAing the board direct to Gigabyte?
Maybe I should contact Austin Computers and see if they can help me?

You can rma direct to gigabyte here in aus, but they're going to reject it. Bent cpu pins automatically = physical abuse or misuse.

I've never heard of anyone having a socket replaced before, and I'm not sure I'd ever trust a board that had had a socket replacement. That would be an incredibly delicate job that if wasn't done perfectly could very well result in a board that would never overclock with any sense of stability.

So really I just have to buy a new one.

I might get a few bucks for this one if someone has more patience/skill at repairing pins...

Thanks for the input guys, you pretty much confirmed my fears.

I might get a UD3R today and contact Gigabyte. If it costs $55 it would be well worth it.

I can hardly wait 2 days!! I'll just pick up a board today and then sell one of them when the repaired board gets back.

Perfect sense. He has two pins missing from the socket, but wherever they are, they're straight. He knocked them out without bending them, so I'm sure Gigabyte would be more inclined to replace it. Or if I remember right, he has an AMD (cbf checking the sig), so it would be the pins on the CPU.
