was watching a few LP videos on youtube tonight, and there new album comes out soon, as they have a new logo, based on blakc and white colour scheme, thought of doing a black and white scheme with the Linkin Park logo spray painted on the side windows that has nothing on it, white painting the whole cases black, the HDD, Mess etc a white colour, as well as spray painting the side. I created a rough drawn diagram tonight but will create a better one with auto-cad soon and see what you think. The only problem is pray painting the logo onto the side of the HDD. As I would like it to cover most of that side of the case.

Mate that sounds like a lot of painting, but would be pretty good to see

Excellent thread, OP.

Firstly, for me, it's about making something from nothing (when it comes to scratch building). I, like others have touched upon, like to get that creative release that you get from seeing a project come to life.

For instance, not five minutes ago I was outside with the drop saw cutting up lengths of pine to make 30cm^2 frames. I screwed up, and used the shorter side as the height, instead of the taller side. So I had to start again, after I had made one frame. Normally, if I fuck up like that at work/uni/life I'd swear a bit and kick myself. But because it's for modding, I laughed, shrugged my shoulders, found some more and started again.

Also it's about making life a little easier. Modding provides that. Also justifies me buying expensive tools! :P

modding for me is the good feeling you get when Youve created something yourself. You can look back at it and think, Wow I made that

Mmmm, Same - i tend to drink less while modding then normally
Which is always a good thing.

IMO the point of modding is to take a case you own or want to buy, and changing the general lay-out/looks to better suit your needs and/or desires.

I couldn find a case that fits what i want in it so just gonna build one. Also wanted it to look less plain and out of the box. I suppose alot of people do it is art or to make it more practical but I mostly wanted it to be unique and special. No other computer in the world would be even similiar to mine or another modded one.

The satisfaction of attacking something vigorously with a 9" Angle Grinder.

AAAAAAAAAH!!!

That and I just enjoy working with metal and electronics and as has been said before, You can look back and go, I made that...or you can look back and go Why the hell did I do that?

Basically why do people find modding fun, why is it a good thing and is it worthwhile?
Man has an inner need to tinker. Whether it's cutting up a case, opening up an engine, or in the case of a guy I sometimes work with, designing & building functioning miniture jet engines... It's all good and it's all worthwhile.

Using a Turbo Charger, a fuel injector, a spark plug, some stainless steel tubing, a drill, possibly a leaf blower and some PVC pipe?

Always good fun :P
(If your doing it that way though get some perspex or something, if that thing breaks it may explode violently sending shrapnel everywhere)

I like to mod stuff that was not built for purpose so I have a unique case, sometimes it is cool for a talking point, other times for self satisfaction.

My latest effort was shoehorning a mATX mobo etc into a G4 MDD case, having to invent a solution for the PSU and ensuring good airflow was a real challenge in ducting, but it works, and it looks cool! The only drawback I find with modding is sometimes you go so far that the case that you hack up for a specific job becomes useless for anything else in the future - although this does provide a perfectly good reason to mod something else!!
