So which do I get? I currently have a Nokia 5800 Xpress and frankly it's one of those phones that was good at the beginning, but you began to hate beyond a few weeks. I won't go into detail here, as I am struggling to settle on what phone I should get next. I like the look of the iPhone (heck even the 3GS) but annoyed by Apple's restrictive control of it (there are both positives and negatives to it). I haven't had a chance to play with the HTC Desire but have seen it. I have played a little with the Galaxy S and still not convinced by the screen and the phone I was using seemed a bit slow moving between pages. The screen also didn't seem as intuitive as the iPhone personally. I like the fact that on Android you can customise to your heart's content, but then if you lost those settings, well then you could get annoyed having to set it up again.
Not entirely sure which to get as they both have their positives and negatives. Of course I have read through these forums, and googled my way through a number of articles and still haven't made my way either way. Your thoughts? |

I guess the obvious question is why did you choose the HTC Desire over the Iphone?

Basically the same reasons as thedarkhorse, Google integration, not wanting to join the ios ecosystem, wanting a screen that could survive average phone wear & tear and I hate the iPhone keyboard.

Don't forget price, the Desire is almost on par with the iphone4 but costs no more than a 3gs. Have a good play with a Desire at your local telstra shop, you may like the sense ui much more than the galaxy ui.

It's a tough call - IF they were the same price, I'd strongly consider an iPhone over an Android.
The 'just works' factor is pretty good on an iPhone. Android is a bit fragmented seeing as developers have to make it for XX number of phones. Often see comments in the Android Marketplace saying "Does not work on Phone Type X". That said the 'just works' factor is still pretty good with Android if you're a gmail user. Intergration with facebook / twitter / social media junk is all good. My brother lives the Apple 'ecosystem' and its pretty impressive. However, if you're sticking with Windows on your PC etc, the Android is probably worth the extra 'hassle' for customisability.

htc evo and moto droid x in the US had gotten people turning heads, if there were the gsm counterparts they could possibly compete here on local grounds (the atrocious lining up for a giant piece of antenna phone looked ridiculous to me
)its hard to say a 'vs' here because when you mention android you're talking about a variety of phones. If you're sick of a 3.8 inch screen on iphone and wanted something bigger for youtube and divx videos then you would have picked another phone immediately. I have a Desire and if you don't use the phone to listen to music then its the ONLY way to go.
If you get one from Telstra on a plan you get extra data (500mb on a 49 cap instead of 200mb) and a 24 month warranty.

Personally, I still use a separate media player, my trusty Zune HD, because it's leaps and bounds better than anything else in the market at playing media, and I'm okay with carrying two devices around. |
