Ok, so what now for all of you guys who run it for NAS ?
Happened on Friday the 13th....... http://news.slashdot.org/story/10/08...laris-Revealed On a personal note, it kind of vindicates my decision to build my storage server on good old Linux MD + LVM. Sure it is not as cool as ZFS but who needs cool. Especially since those numpties at Oracle now own/control it. I did play with opensolaris (being a former Solaris admin) and found it nice, but it always lacked something......................a developer community. I'm curious to see in what position this decision leaves the hangers on particularly in relation to ZFS. * Nexenta (Opensolaris kernel + Ubuntu Userland) * FreeBSD (Free but with ZFS) Illuminos may be the only way forward....either that or these devs should just jump ship to linux or BSD and save themselves a lot of hassle. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/08...solaris_spork/ |

No offence, but I think this discussion is better suited to the *nix forum.
Perhaps continued in this thread... http://forums.overclockers.com.au/sh...d.php?t=894447 |
