I think its a good practice, to have the temp warning in the bios (if you have it) on.

Not installing the fan properly is quite a big mistake...You CPU wouldn't be damaged. I believe there are two ways you can damage your CPU, High voltage and or exceed TJMAX, which I believe is 100 degrees c.

Your computer should turn off if it ever reaches that temperature.

Did you pay the person to build it? 'Cos I would be pissed off as hell.

Im getting somewhere with my overclocking, turns out my ram is what was causing all the errors. I've gotten 4.2 almost stable . Was doing 24000 problem size, got up to 75 percent and said it was finished. So on the agenda tomo... Gonna get (or make lol) 4.2 stable on my i7, gonna make it pass 5 passes of linx with 24000 prob size. Then I'm gonna leave Prime 95 on max heat (dunno what thats called on the program) for the whole night. Gonna wake up and hope its still running. If it is, ill celebrate, then post the settings here if I remember. oh and then go to school

Not true, where I work we have seen alot of the low end core 2 duo's (newer budget models), core i3, core i5 and core i7 cpus come back to the store damaged or completely stuffed from overheating due to improper fan mounting (eg clips not clipped down properly).

Only some of the current Intel offerings have temperature cut offs. Some other features have started to disappear as well (from both their cpu and/or their chipset). Only thing I can bring it down to is cost cutting.

hey guys I've got a 930 as well and I think some owners should go back to basics maybe not everyone but a few peoples volts are kinda off.

Maybe that's why temps go way off.

I've had mine on 41 @ 1.23 in win and 1.25 in bios.

have a look in my sig chalua, it should be all there. Im testing 4.2ghz now, changing my sig. Also avoid excessive double/triple posting, mods wont like it too much

Minor Bump,

Can we figure out what is okay for LINX stable, I'm running linx 10000 problem size 10 passes, right now its failing at 13. Still working on it.

Beta BIOS for my motherboard, doesnt have anything about OC improvements but hopefully something does happen. Might flash it might not.

EDIT!!!
Was thinking about making another post because of the epicness. I've gotten 4.2ghz to finish 20 pass of LINX at 10000prob size, with ***************** Temps

i7 at 100 degrees, boiling point, epic. I will be lowering down the voltage.

Another EDIT, next one I might create new post.
I just brought down the volts and now im much happier with the temps

A lot of you are probably like "wtf his happy with these temps." well honestly I am, its much harder to OC these chips, requires way more patients. But im getting somewhere. Im gonna see now if this can run a much larger prob size. 23000 which is just over 4gb

have u tried a differnt graphics card?

i know with the ep45 i put a fan on the nb see if its gets any better...it needs flow maybe...definetly not good voltage for 4.2...do the littlest to try improve the volts i think.

which case and how many fans on the board?

and with the thermal paste how long since u mounted that sink?

No fans on the motherboard, I dont think its nessesary. As for how long the TIM has been on. maybe a few weeks. But it has gone through more heat up cool down cycles than most normal gaming computers.
