Default OS on a system your selling?

Just a quick question i have a few boxs comeing in soon very cheapily and i plan to sell them again at a rather nice profit .

Any way im wondering what to do here, i dont like the idea of loading an OS on there that i dont own/cant give them the real thing.

Would the adverage user take a system with linux or not?
What does a genuine win98 License/copy cost?
What does a genuine windows XP license/copy cost?
Could i use OEM Licenses because im selling a system aswell?
Can i buy OEM license with out a ABN?

I mean i would like to do it by the book i am probably going to be making quite a tidy profit margin so im just wondering which path to take. Little advice.

Thanks
Steve

winxp and win98 are the same price

you can get OEM xp home for like $100 but u have to buy it from teh guy you are getting the comps from. AFAIK.

winXP home off-the-shelf is $400 or so for the rull retail copy

cheers

Im sure i can do a dodgy and convince one of the 100 stores in my area to sell me OEM copys if i buy about 10 or 20 of them and 10 or 20 modems at the same time.

Thanks for that.

Check the licensing carefully too. There may be some clause which says an OEM license is non-transferrable (which may contravene consumer legislation and may hold up in court anyway, but...) so that may be one more thing to worry about.

i did some reaserch and it turns out adding an OS doesnt add the price of the OS or aynthing onto the price so the boxs will be sold formated and ready for what ever the purchaser wants to do.

Thanks for the advice

buy you sure that isn't illegal??

if you do a 'dodgy' with the software outlet to secure some OEM copies of windows then it is definitely illegal technically even more illegal considering you're going to sell the machines that you put the OS's on

think carefully about what to do

cheers

Make sure the buyer knows that they are getting a naked PC, without an operating system. If you're selling to a newbie, it's not nice to sell them a non-functional computer.
