ok, i finally got it to work after a number of attempts last night. watched a 30 minute tv show, and shut it down.

today, its playing up again. now it says "BOOTMGR is missing, press ctrl alt delete to restart" while still loading up. so it can't get into windows.

i don't think i removed the battery for long enough last night, so i'll try leaving it out for 10 minutes. if that doesnt fix it, i'll pop in the 7300.

cheers for the suggestions!

ok, leaving the cmos battery out for 10 minutes didn't work, neither did putting in the old video card. i did some googling and read that the BOOTMGR message is can be caused by a second hard drive (i've got 2 plugged in) so i unplugged the second one, and now its running fine.

for now...
